The Pre-E3 expectations thread
« on: July 06, 2007, 05:55:49 AM »
minE3 2007 is about 5 days away, so I think its time we laid out on the table what it is we'd like to,  expect to & don't expect to at this years E3.

We already have the OFFICIAL Wii rumor thread (which I will update with another summary before E3) with a list of things waiting to be confirmed or denied (by TGS @ the latest), but what I would like to see is everyones E3 predictions for ALL of E3 and not just Nintendo.

What do you expect from Nintendo, Microsoft & Sony?
What about the 3rd parties, FFXIII, MGS4, RE5, SC4?
Will there be price drop announcements? How about hardware revisions?
Is there a game you expect to be the sleeper hit of the show?
Who is gonna have the best or worse press conference?

If there is anything I missed, please feel free to include and discuss it.

E3 Insider - The Official E3 Website

p.s. This thread is recommended for everyone.......except Kairon.

Of the big three Console makers Sony will have the worse press conference and MS will have the best.  MS just really does those PR type things well.

I'm going to expect Battalion Wars to be "fully" playable, feature complete.  In fact I expect there to be a demo of the multiplayer aspect of it with people across the booth, or whatever they have, from each other.  Even better yet have them seperated fully by room.  Sense they will probably seperate the long lead time and short lead time media anyways.

Too Human will be there.  Though it will only be a short series of demos.  One where you go in and out of battle to show the cinematic transitioning, another showing the hub world, uberPlayer demo, and one more showing off a boss battle.

The failure rate of 360 will grudgingly be address because, all media will ask.

If the PS3 drops price then we should see the 360 follow suite but not as steep.  Unless a new revision that is quarenteed to not rrod is announced.

PS3 Eyetoy with the card game actually playable. (A card will be swag.)

Galaxy on hand.  Prime on hand.  Recent Smash build there but only shown to long lead media or if MS and Sony pull out a wammy of a surprise.

Prime will be the focus of the Gamer side of the Nintendo presentation.  Focus will still be on Non-gamers even though this is a very gamer centerred event.

We'll fine out whose staying with Nintendo and whose not.

Spore will be there and then delayed....

Space Tycoon playable (Sleeper hit if allowed to spend a good chunk of time with).

Press will be tired still.

Project H.A.M.M.E.R.'s fate may be revealed.

Maybe an announcement on Retro's next project.

Face Training Wiii...

Possible Live price reduction (Though that would probably be next year if they have stiff competition)

A few WiiWare titles announced.

Batarang comes back with immersive rumble. (That would be great.  I wouldn't mind using it.)

It will be announced that all PS3's will be PSGimped from now on to save the few cents...

New Character for Smash Revealed through epic trailer that will be fully orchestrated and yeild snippets of new stages and items as well.

Reggie introduces his new close staff.  Which will be dressed like the EBA.

EA Hardcore editors get schooled at least once by people playing with family friendly controls.

Wii* series gets it next one announced and it ain't WiiSports 2.

New Mii channel posed for release.
This channel will possibly allow Mii dress up with items earned from games.

Nintendo will finally say how they will handle the space crunch.

Almost everyone in attendance will have a skewed blood alcohol level at one point during.

Sony will magically be showing all those games they promised.

New Wii with optical out and more space...

DS XL  shown to public for the first time.  More surface area then a DSPhat but skinnier then a DSLite.  With a larger screen and actual ergonomics. A larger battery allows for longer play time between charges.  Still uses charging ports and stylus of the DSLite.  Button shape will be changed to accomodate larger adult hands.  Incorporated eBook program...

God of War for the PSP is shown.  Looks and runs better then the PS2 versions with the best connections.  You can also hear the battery drain...

Nintendo will apologize for the Wii Pokemon game and promise to release an enhanced version of Stadium 2 for the VC.

Upgrade channel announced.

I'll stop there for now...

I put this on my wish list every year: Kid Icarus.

The only things I'm really banking on are new models of DS and PSP, both of which I'm interested in. Otherwise, I don't like to get my hopes up. There will be some cool announcements, I'm sure, but I'm just waiting for release dates (Galaxy and Brawl) so as long as they're still this year, I won't be disappointed.

I do expect Sony to have an ultra-boring press conference. It's not E3 without Sony's yearly powerpoint of graphs and numbers. However, it can't possibly be more embarrassing than last year. It should be better, just still boring.

MGS4 to 360.

Nintendo will definitely show off Mario Kart at this point. It's just that 'time in the systems life for the game to be announced.

I'd love to see a real true successor to Starfox 64 be announced . . . but that's just wishful thinking.

I think this year though will definitely mainly be about the 3rd party and new IPs from Nintendo. I just have a feeling a lot of new stuff is going to be shown from Nintendo that we wouldn't expect and a lot of 3rd party games will at least make it to a demo reel.

"The only things I'm really banking on are new models of DS and PSP"

Okay the PSP I can see but the DS?  Why would they release a THIRD revision of it?

I predict that most of Nintendo's "traditional games" will be sequels and the new IPs will be almost all non-games.  That just seems to be the trend.

I figure the Wii third party support will improve but there will still be a few major third parties (Konami is usually a good guess) that will just offer ports, remakes, spinoffs, and kids games.  However as each E3 goes by we'll see this less and less.

The PS3 will lose some major exclusives either by the game going multiplatform or just switching consoles outright.

Nintendo will either have an amazing press conference that will get everyone talking or a really horrible one that leaves everyone scratching their heads.  It's always one extreme or the other.  Nintendo doesn't have mediocre E3 press conferences.

The gaming media will award Best of Show to a game that is only shown in video, isn't due to come out for at least two years, is likely on the PC and is without a doubt NOT on a Nintendo system.

There's a rumor going around for new DS featuring larger screens, mainly for old people who have trouble seeing small text. Also, a lot of people with big hands complain about feeling cramped on the Lite. I heard it in person so I can't call BS on that complaint.

And consider that there were 4 different GBA models (including the SP with the brighter screens). It's not something Nintendo has been opposed to doing in the past.

Well, I have no expectations for E3 this year.  I haven't marked the dates on any calendar, and as far as I know, the net is excited, but I haven't figured out when it starts and end.  The best I can say is that I think it's next week.

I figure since E3 is new, I don't know what to expect, so I'm not going to make up expectations before the first neo-E3.  It makes little sense to.  We don't know what they're really planning to do with the time and space this year.

"Also, a lot of people with big hands complain about feeling cramped on the Lite."

Then maybe those people should, I don't know, buy the OLD DS.  Now that isn't any indication that Nintendo won't release the "DS BIG" with this sort of dumb logic in place and it isn't any indication that people won't buy it.  It still bugs me that this sort of marketing works ever.  You just know there are going to be some idiots that bought the original DS, traded it in and bought a DS Lite, and will now trade in their Lite to get a new DS to solve the problem of the Lite being too small, a problem they NEVER would have had if they kept their original DS in the first place.

For the few people (likely no one) who gets the reference - Idiocracy is hardly a fictional movie.

Your plan to tell people to buy the original DS doesn't work very well when they aren't sold new and, in fact, I don't see a lot of them used.  Additionally, a lot of people don't like to buy used hardware *and* the DS Lite has quite a few other things going for it (brighters screens, larger stylus, etc).
