Yeah, it made far too much sense to be real.

and I don't know about you guys but I'll take almost anything that's free.

There are lots of games I can buy and play online for free without any hassle, like Starcraft 2.

I'll buy those instead.

I'll probably be too busy playing it against random people on the internet to come back to NWR and keep readding more friend codes for the game.

When I get a new game, the LAST thing I want to do is spend time adding friend codes for it. If I could have added those friend codes ahead of time, say, by using the Wii's internal friend code list, then I'd be playing against those people instead.

But the truth is, I'll probably have 5-10 people who want to be on my friend code list who I just won't bother adding because I already have enough opponents.

In terms of economic principles, I'd rather be playing the game than entering friend codes, but I'd enter friend codes if I didn't have the game to play.

There are a whole pile of Wii owners who probably added me to their Wii list (since I'm 2nd or 3rd on the list) who I haven't added because I just don't care to do so, and now even more, since I know that these friend codes are worthless for actual gaming anyway.

So if you are playing against random people in Starcraft what is your problem with Wii online?  It allows random matches with no codes.  Instead of typing in their blizzard name for starcraft (or searching repeatedly for a friends game) you will type in the game friend code.  The actual length of what you type in will probably be very similar.  I like friend codes because they allow me to choose my username, I don't have to have numbers or stupid misspellings.  The only bad part is that the friends don't carry over from game to game.  If you use pc as a comparison though none of your names carry over from game to game.  Honestly I don't play online with friends much but I don't see myself playing a game like BWii with the same people I would play ssbb with anyway.  I never really saw this as some huge problem like other people seem to.

There's still hope! Never give up!

Dowsedell comments as they appear above were a translation of his original words done by this writer, which we should have made more clear. However, we feel our translation was accurate to the best of our knowledge. As it was written in the interview: Chaque Mii créé génère un code Mii qui reste invariable par la suite. Ce code servira donc pour tous les autres jeux jouables en ligne dans le futur.

We have contacted Dowsedell ourselves to learn that, indeed, he is not sure and was not speaking for how online will be handled with other games. "We're just aware of how we're handling Strikers stuff ... That's not to say it won't happen, but I'm not aware of that," he said to Joystiq via phone.

Bolding mine. Gotta keep the fanboi irrationality alive. That sort of crazy hype is in danger of going extinct amongst us Nintendo gamers.

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

I can talk to the people in Starcraft, which is necessary for things like comp-stomps.
