It's funny because I avoided the launch of the game but eventually wound up getting into it later.

Luckily, I'm capable of growing tired of the game so it's not like I'm constantly playing it or anything.

Both Portal and TF2 has me wanting TOB badly. But the game is way too expensive around here (60 bucks + the 2 bucks they add for shipping over seas + plus the nation tax + the city tax = well over 70 bucks! >.< and my computer is not up to date with today's games.

It's such a shame your comp can't do it: the online atmosphere is great. It makes me glad I can run windows.

I've found a few servers I particularly like and the strategy behind certain aspects of the maps are awesome.

The best part is deciding what class to play. Some days I feel like sneaking around and knifing people in the back while other times I want to build and defend a sentry gun. Others still I just want to fire rockets at everything. The game is very well balanced and offers the chance to pick a role and play it.

And it's free to play online.

They had an update for the PC version recently with a new map.

Also, rumor has it that the pyro might be a woman...

Been around a while, came up because the Pyro has a purse it his/her locker.  Valve calls the purse "a joke."

If you yell "Medic!", it doesn't sound very feminine.

I'd laugh myself sh*tless if the pyro was a butch lesbian because, when I played UnF, my clan had a butch lesbian who played nothing but pyro.

Mega-bump!

So I bought The Orange Box on Steam this weekend for $10.  I've already played Half-Life 2 and Portal to death and I'm waiting on Episodes 1 & 2 until #3 comes out.  I'm thinking of giving Team Fortress 2 a shot.

I'm pretty good a FPS, but I have limited experience with team-based multiplayer other than straight-out team deathmatch.  Where's a good class to start with?  I know a bunch of people in the NWR group still play this game regularly (it's always the #1 game).
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Heavy and Medic are pretty hard to do anything wrong with; try them until you get a handle on the objectives and flow of the map. After that, you might consider moving to soldier or pyro, or whatever you feel most comfortable with.

Also if you're new, engineer is okay as long as you know the turret "sweet spots".

Dunno, this constant medic playing (because noone else on my team will take that role) got a bit boring.

I didn't say be a full time medic, cuz that is pretty boring. But it's a great class to play while learning the ropes of the game.

Scout is still my favorite class 8)

Yeah but what else can I do when not playing medic myself just leaves the team without any medics?

Don't guilt trip yourself over a game. If I'm stuck playing a class I don't like so the sake of the time, I usually discretely change at the beginning of the next round and someone else picks up the slack. Kind of a jerk move, sure, but my mad scout/pyro/spy skills are wasted banging on a turret for 30 minutes
