This is probably the ONLY FPS which can get me to return to my keyboard and mouse ways right now.

I played Unreal Fortress back in the day (TF mod for UT) and I loved playing as the Saboteur (spy).

Anyone else going to look into this when it comes out?

Hellz yes.  I had a blast setting people on fire as a pyro in TFC back in the day.  I'm thrilled that they ditched the boring realistic military theme they originally had lined up for TF2 way back when.

I've played some Unreal Fortress.  I think I remember playing Weapons Factory UT more, though.  As a pyro.

Does TF have the same grenade system as Unreal Fortress? I mean with being able to prime grenades and then throw them?

I LOVED that ability in UnF and it basically made the sabo a force to be reckoned with if you knew how to grenade-time.

I wouldn't kill for Team Fortress 2. I'd commit wanton slaughter.

I'm looking forward to playing as the Engineer. It reminds me of my days setting up turret farms in Tribes 2.

TFC does.  I can't speak for the original Quake TF since I never played it.

The demoman is the only one who gets grenades in TF2.  No idea how they work, though.

Damn, that kills a lot of my enthusiasm for it.

Grenade timing was honestly the reason I played the game. I'll try a demo before I buy it.

Team Fortress 2 is focusing a lot more on making the classes play differently and stuff. I can't wait cause the game just looks like fun.

Well, the Demoman has, for the trailers I've seen, a grenadle launcher that fires remotely detonated grenades and a two-stage timed explosive charge. There's no priming, but no delay in throwing the charges, so it might serve.

As long as the classes are different enough, I will likely still enjoy it.

In TFC, my favorite game type was Hunted.  It had two major problems, however.  First, we only ever had two good maps.  Second, nobody ever wanted to play the VIP.  Has there been any news about this?  If they find some way to fix problem number two, I will buy the game just on principle.

I don't think Hunted is in TF2.  Valve said they'd be releasing new maps after the game comes out, but I don't remember them ever mentioning adding Hunted maps specifically.

IGN has infos on the classes: link

I like this part:

"To your allies, the Spy looks like his regular self, but with a cardboard cut-out mask of his disguised role. And all the while he continues to smoke his thing cigarette."

Nice.

The one shame with the spy, though, is that players who are smart will just shoot their teammates once with a small shot to make sure they're not spies.

It said that the Spies shots don't hurt team mates...not necessarily that other players shots won't hurt team mates...I am hoping that is the balance.

This game is making me very jealous.  I want an Xbox 360 for it.  I would buy a fully developed version of this game by itself.

They fixed the biggest flaw with spies: that your own teammates would be fooled, too.  Fantastic.  Did you ever try playing TFC on a LAN with people who didn't ever read the messages on their screen?  It was quite an experience trying to convince your teammates to stop bouncing you around with rockets without tipping off the other team that you were a spy.  Then of course there's the old "Wow!  How did you change colors like that?!" yelled out loud.

Unreal Fortress had buttons you could hit to make your character shout "Medic!" and "Fix my armor!" as you were running into a base, which made it possible to fool some people into thinking that you were a teammate coming back for aid.

However, the spy's ability to turn invisible is absolutely necessary. That will be the key difference between getting into a flag room and not.

I'm guessing that, since the secondary weapon is the disguise kit, the secondary will fire the shots appropriate to your disguise.

hmm, I never really got into TF, i think it was mainly because i tried getting into it as a PC FPS noob.  However I loved the trailers for the game and over the years I've become quite a CounterStrike fan, so hopefully when (thats a long when) this game comes out I'll jump all over it.

BUMP!

Been playing Orange Box on XBL and it's awesome.

I'm not even willing to suggest that I'm any good at the game, but I love what they've done with the classes, although I admittedly miss the grenades and grenade timing.

Really shows you how outdated Halo is, even without vehicles TF2 has far more strategy and diversity than Halo.

I can't say how this game compares to the Halo 3 (don't have it yet) multiplayer mode in terms of fun, however I can say that I am having fun playing TF2.
Although it would be alot better if at least a quarter, in number, of the players that are playing Halo 3 would be playing TF2.
So far I have only used the Soldier, but I will definitely try the other classes because they too seem like alot of fun is to be had with them.

Hot damn...my old spy skills finally came back yesterday.

The cloak they gave to the spy truly is its greatest weapon. I would have personally preferred that they also gave the spy a proper shotgun (as the revolver sucks) but I agree that this would have been too overpowering for a class that can basically appear and disappear at will if you play your cards right.

There's nothing like turning invisible to run past that heavy+medic combo, then backstabbing the medic and then the heavy OR running behind 4 classes all slower than you are and backstabbing all four of them before anyone knows what's going on OR sapping a turret and dispenser sitting on a ledge with an engineer and a sniper and then backstabbing them BOTH.

Maybe the team just wasn't that great, but I did better as a spy than I've done as any other class.

I've found myself playing as a medic. Don't know why, I just find myself being most useful when I'm trying to keep my team alive. Plus bonesaw for close combat.

As said before, the classes are great, and each relates to the others really well. It's one of those few FPS games where teamwork is more important then individual skill.

Finally got around to installing and playing TF2 last night, while I was holding my craving for Mario Galaxy. I'm just amazed at how silky smooth it is. The game, the network code, everything... Feels like I'm 17 again....

I haven't been a N00b (Do the kids still say that?) in ages, but I find solace in both the Pyro and Medic classes.

We should get some of the NWR people and play sometime. Anyone want to volunteer to get a master list?

I just picked this up for the PC (or the Macbook Pro running XP, heheh) and I love it.

The PC version brings much more to the table than the 360 version does.
