Fallout 3 buyout

Fallout 3

I don't know how much this changes anything, the game has been in development since 2004 so who knows.  Personally I would really only care if the game played like the Fallout 1 or 2 (I never played Fallout: Tactics).

Any MMO fan out there maybe salivating over a post nuclear MMO over the usual medievil setting.

This is FANTASTIC NEWS.

I don't know why Interplay's name is still on this, I thought they completely and entirely folded. Or did someone buy them out?

Also, it seems that a great deal of people on this forum have never played Fallout, or maybe not even heard of it, so I'll lay down the background. It's the best RPG ever made, is what. You can buy the Fallout 1+2 two-pack for like ten bucks pretty much anywhere where they sell PC games since it's kind of old. Great story, great gameplay, bits of humor and exploration, and an amazing character creation/talents system. It's a post-apocalypse storyline; the atmosphere is a lot like Mad Max or the Postman or whatever that movie was called.

Fallout Tactics was fairly fun, but also really buggy and likes to freak out sometimes. They were putting this out right when Interplay was going broke, so I get the feeling they kind of rushed it. It might be okay with patches now, I guess. It's a realtime or turn based (you can switch it!) squad-based SRPG. Like uh, X-COM or whatsitcalled, Jagged Alliance. The multiplayer is hilarious, though, when you start doing really creative stuff like loading up a character with live TNT charges and suicide bomb the other team. FOR ALLAH. The characters level, equip, use skills, etc, the same way as Fallout 1/2.

There was also an Fallout action game on PS2/XBOX. Some good co-op and extra storyline, but I got stuck and didn't finish it.

So yeah, this is an MMO I'm definitely interested in.

To my understanding Bethesda has bought the Fallout IP and is making Fallout 3 while Interplay is liscensing (what was) thier own game back from Bethesda to make an MMO that Bethesda has quality control over.

SUPER you make it sound like Fallout 3 and the MMO are the same game, but that isn't what te article is saying:
Quote

The move sees a little role-reversal: Bethesda were licensing the IP from Interplay for Fallout 3, but Interplay are now the licensees, borrowing the IP from Bethesda for their own Fallout MMO.

Included in the deal are some specifics on the MMO, including the fact the MMO HAS to begin work within 2 years of now, HAS to be released within four years and that when it is, 12% of all sales and subscription fees will go to Bethesda.

And this is the BEST RPG ever. I still haven't beat it cause someting always happens after I get the power suits in SF and for some reason I stop playing long enough to need to start over again cause its been so long I don't remember what I was doing or what my strategy was. If you like RPGs(or not) and you have never played this, I strongly suggest you atleast go out and try Fallout 2, This comes with my highest of recommendations. I have gotten several friends who didn't even like RPGs hooked on this game and all they did was thank me later and talk to me about it as if I wasn't the one that introduced them to the game. Its. That. Good.

Every place I look is selling the more recent UK DVD version that includes Tactics.  I might be willing to go for that, but it's not just ten bucks, and I don't know if I trust it.  Europe + DVD = Starforce copy protection, apparently, although I can't find confirmation one way or the other on this edition.

I don't think they put Starforce on it, that requires changing the game code IIRC and is too much work for a simple rerelease.

Also Super, you're one of the few people who consider Bethesda handling Fallout good news. One of their guys already said they think humour in games is bad and they want to make Fallout 3 completely serious. Most are also worried that they'll approach FO like Elder Scrolls, which is probably the complete opposite of FO with less plot and more landscape.

I'm pretty clear that Fallout 3 and MMO are different, I just got a little overexcited and what I mean is I'm getting them both unless they turn into awful abortions for some reason.

I don't even remember if I've ever played a game by Bethesda. The fact that a new Fallout game is coming out at all is good news to me. I just have to wonder if the same director or anybody has hopped over there to work on it, as I can't seem to find that info.

Also, saw this on wikipedia:
Quote

Bethesda have announced their intention to make Fallout 3 similar to the previous two games, focusing on non-linear gameplay, a good story, and true "Fallout humor." Bethesda has also stated the game will be rated M for mature, and will have the same sort of adult themes, violence, and depravity that are characteristic of the Fallout series.

My favorite part of Fallout hasn't been the story or humor (although they're great), but mostly the gameplay. Being able to build a character anyway you want and a chance to explore/do/kill anything is great. Especially the part where you become a porn star and also kill 50 children.

Couldn't you pimp your wife in one of the Fallout games?

I've read some of the stuff you could do in Fallout, you couldn't do half that crap today.

You can pimp yourself. Most of the stuff in there was for laughs with no real benefit or determint to yourself, but they were funny as hell and well thought out. The absolute most favorite thing I like about this game are the death animations. There are soo many ways to kill someone or something.
