While I'll all happy for Sony's misfortunes it would be better if the game was coming to the Wii.  So far whenever Sony loses an exclusive it ends up on the Xbox 360.  So we get games released on every console BUT Nintendo's which is really just the Cube all over again.  I see this less as an exclusive lost for Sony but a multiplatform games lost for Nintendo.  Gamespot is reporting rumours of Final Fantasy XIII losing exclusivity but again the Wii is not mentioned, just the Xbox 360.

While Sony's downfall is beneficial to Nintendo I don't think constantly missing out on these big titles is going to be very helpful.  This is WAY too similar to when tons of games were appearing on the Playstation and Saturn but not the N64.  Sega was getting killed but Nintendo wans't benefiting.  Because of a huge hardware difference Nintendo was the odd man out.  If the PS3 gets killed off is it really helpful for the Wii if the Xbox 360 just picks up the slack?  Thankfully the Wii is ensured victory in Japan but with the non-gamer emphasis over there and all these Japanese third parties putting major titles on the X360 is that going to matter?  The logical assumption is winning in Japan would attract the best third party support from Japanese third parties but so far I don't see it happening.  The Wii isn't getting the "A" material from Japanese third party devs.  They might not give a damn about Japanese sales if they can sell better in North America backing a North American console.

Well, it DOES make waaay more logical sense for PS3 games to be ported to the XBox360. *shrug*

It's the new projects that don't already have their engines built where the Wii should expect to pick up support, not in games which have already poured millions into HD graphics.

Wii is nothing like N64 was, third party developers are constantly giving their support for Wii, and some of them have created some high quality games (EA being one). Not only that but N64 didn't have near the popularity of Wii, makes me wonder if Ian has even been paying attention to how Wii has been doing in NA. It will still take time for bigger budgeted Wii titles to start being created for Wii, but even at that there have been some solid (and growing) support for Wii so far.

The PS3, not the Wii, resembles the N64. *shrug*

There are engines that run on both the 360 and the PS3.  The ports makes sense.

Don't forget the Chaos Legion port which had a copy protection that completely failed (would ALWAYS report a false positive) so you needed a crack to play the game at all.

Oh man it's so fun being on the other side for a change...Sony fanboys start petition to boycott Capcom.

The whole PS3 to Xbox 360 ports thing...it's the way of the future.  It just doesn't make sense to make an exclusive game for those consoles - they cost an arm and a leg to develop for and porting from one to the other is much easier than porting from those systems to Wii.

Now I already know Ian's argument on that..."Well that's pretty dumb of Nintendo, now we're all f*cked because the Wii is crippled."  The thing is, if Wii was another $500 uber-system, nobody would be buying it.  The fact that Wii is outselling the other two systems by leaps and bounds is the only reason that third party support is better than it was on Cube.

So no, we aren't going to get a lot of PS3 and Xbox 360 games.  That's unfortunate, in a way, but on the other hand I see no reason to believe that we would be getting better-than-GameCube third-party support if Nintendo had made another console like the 360 and PS3.  Ian's typical argument that Nintendo needs to just not screw up doesn't hold any water here, because 360 is selling about the same or worse than the original Xbox, even though it clearly has a superior game lineup to the other two systems.  You could argue that the system's poor reliability is a screw-up, and you'd be right, but I believe that $400-$600 systems are the real screw up.

I still say that $400 could be considered more reasonable if the 360 was rock solid.

$400 is NEVER mass market. That's my opinion.

Well in my opinion 399.99 is not mass market price thats why some retailers throw in a free game like NFS: Most wanted, PD:zero, Kameo, or GRAW 1 to justify the price. I think that 299.99 is the upper limit of mass market price.

I think $400 is a bit much...and the system has been out for a year, I think a lot of people are conditioned to expect a price drop by now.

I think it's possible to sell a lot more systems at $400 than Microsoft has, but I think the console needs more big-name games...the biggest games for the system are all brand-new IPs that many gamers know nothing about: Gears of War, Dead Rising, Lost Planet.  They are supposed to be good, but how does Joe Casual know that?

If the system had names like Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto etc., I think it would be selling better.  It'll get some of those eventually, but right now I think it's hard for a lot of uninformed consumers to drop $400.  I'm a little surprised they aren't out there picking up the $300 unit, but maybe the importance of the harddrive is more widely known than I assume.

Those big games have to start somewhere. How did Joe Casual know Resident Evil was a winner? Or Halo? Or Zelda?

I find it funny that these PS3 fans are petitioning to boycott Capcom games... you know, because poor sales of Devil May Cry 4 on PS3 will surely encourage Capcom to devote more resources toward PS2 development.

And I think the whole PS3/360 port thing could potentially be very good for Nintendo. They might not get the ports, but they have an opportunity here to score some exclusives. Wii seems to be more popular by the day and development costs are a fraction of what they are on competing platforms. Nintendo couldn't ask to be in a better position. The question is: can they capitalize? They really need to start making deals and forging alliances with 3rd parties.

Last I checked it got that pricedrop. The 360 Premium costs 300€ now, down from 400.

Fanboys who complain about lost exclusivity are consumer whores if you look at it objectively. They've completely sold out, they prioritize someone else's best interest over their own. As an end user I appreciate multiplatform games. If e.g. Killer 7 hadn't been ported to the PS2 I wouldn't have gotten it because I bought an old, discounted copy of it for the PS2 when the GC version was out of print and stock for a loooong time already. Or Psychonauts, if that was an XBox exclusive I wouldn't have played it.
