Gamecube LAN games?

I really hope Nintendo gets there online plan and even there LAN plan down becuase this is taking way to long....

Well once they do, what games do you think would thrive as a LAN game. My first thought was SSMB but there would have to be Maps just specialized for LAN games becuase most now are to small for more than 4 players.

your thoughts

did you mean SSBM? if not, whats ssmb?
but if indeed you did mean smash bros, i think more than 4 people would just be crazy, timesplitters would be cool, mario kart/f zero are just completly obvious i dont even need to mention them

but in my opinion 4 people for console gameing is fine anyway, something magical about 4 guys/girls sitting in a room for endless hours trying to best each other (or even co-operate) in certain games . online definatly and lans maybe kinda take the personal side out of it if you ask me

Games that MUST have LAN, if LAN gaming ever comes to fruition on Gamecube:
-Mario Kart
-F-Zero
-Some 1st person shooters (Bond, TimeSplitters, etc)
-Some RPG (Final Fantasy?)
and of course:
-Super Smash Bros. 3
-Lots of sports.

Any others? I can't think of any. That's all I need, and are willing to spend money for.

HOLY SH!T! How come I didn't think of that! I've been screaming for SMB2 to get on the shelves, and here we are talking about what games are perfect for LAN! MAN!

Good work Mario. Makes SMB2 evern more desirable. Hopefully, that phone call comes tomorrow, and I can skip happily down to EB and get my copy! And I actually have money for it! HAHAHAHA!

Who cares about sports games? Besides UT that is... But they've practically anounced that GCN is getting FFXI. Not like it matters to me, I'm just going to get it on PC.

Um, since when is GCN getting FFXI? First of all it's online...Xbox would be a better choice now. Second of all, the Japanese PS2 version is selling like crap, and I'm sure the US version will too.

I'd much rather have online FFCC since you wouldn't have to have 3 other players in your room all the time...

LAN games are such a pain. you have to have 2 or more cubes, a bunch of controllers, 2 or more tvs, and a whole bunch of friends. online is so much easier, and better.

The game would need to support it first, so unless your talking about future sequels you can rule out those games.

Online is not better at all!

I see your point, but it is so worth it. I played at a Halo LAN party, and it was incredible. All the insults, the victory chants, and the occansional tackle gives something to the game that Online can't. Also you can't bet Money online now can you....

I don't know about Multiplayer Rpgs....RPGs are about strategy, and its hard to communicate what you want to another person unless there right there in front of you (LAN). The only game I know of that you can communicate online in any genre well is Warcraft 3 or somethign.

Online play is similar to play against bots, except that the names are different, and the tacticts change sometimes.  LAN play is an entirly different game.  The other night at a LAN party, I own in Quake 3.  I had 4 more kills than most others, 6 being gauntlet kills.  Had I done that online, who cares, I can yell a taunt at the guys online, and they can't yell back when they shove a rocket down my thoat and put me back in my place.

In Counter-Strike, there is voice chat.  I stopped playing almost entirly because of this.  Listening is a chore, because you hear homosexual (literally) comments every 30 seconds, and everyone sounds like they are 9 years old.  You can't mute it, because people actually use it to plan attacks.

If there is bickering online, all you can do is hope someone gets booted or leave.  If there is bickering at a LAN, you tell them to shut up.  Once I unpluged the hub because two kids were arguing over the "n00b c4|\||\|0|\| in CS.  We told them to shut up or they wouldn't be playing, we re-started the server, and all was well.  We even got to keep all contestants.

Internet is great when you are home sick or when everyone is busy, but there is nothing like a LAN party.

Yeah just mute them. Becuase if there talking about stupid crap, then they arn't talking about planning attacks so there not needed. Thats what I would do with Halo 2 multiplayer eventually. Unless CS only lets you mute all or nothing of course....
