Seriously.

I'm in the need for some pain.  Which do I pick--Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts or Contra III: The Alien Wars?

Contra. At least you can beat the first level in that with a bit of practice and it doesn't expect you to run through the game twice.

Oh and did I mention Co-Op?

I don't have any friends who are cool.  My chances of playing co-op are slim to none.

If I ever got the chance, I'd probably try to get them to play Gunstar Heroes before Contra III.

I tried a rom of SGnG and didn't like it at all.  Contra 3 is actually fun to play, and even more so with someone else.

I definately recommend Contra 3, it is a fairly well balanced, but challenging game with alot of variety and a great co-op mode!

I wound up going for Contra III: The Alien Wars.  The first stage was a breeze.  Second was even easier.  Third stages kicked my ass.  The wall mini boss is impossible to beat without dying several times.
