Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party
« on: February 02, 2007, 07:57:41 AM »
Konami is making a DDR game for the wii up to 4 players compatible, uses DDR mats and Wii remotes + nunchuks. The DDR mats connect to the gamecube ports so DDR:Mario Mix pads are supported in addition to whatever pads Konami churns out for the Wii. In the early demo some arrows will be replaced with controller motions. Also yet again Konami is thinking about what to use Wiiconnect24 in this game.

I'm not a huge DDR fan but once being a supervisor at Playdium, I know several people that are.

Adding controller motions sounds too complex for me personally, but I'm guessing there are many DDR pros that might like the extra challenge.

And the actions you can perform with the Wii Remote and/or Nunchuk could be more exciting than a similar game on a competing console with inferior motion controls *coughSixaxiscough*.

This could be the hottest party (at least, involving dance pads and clothes), indeed.

As for the classic Battle Mode gameplay, Konami has a few new ideas to go with the Wii controller as well, allowing players to gesture with the Wii remote to taunt, add possible improvisation to the steps, or actually send more arrows over to other competitors by gesturing in a throwing motion.

They forgot "using the Wiimote gestures as an excuse to hit your opponent in the face".

They should have a dance-off "follow" competitive mode, where players execute their own freestyle made-up-on-the-spot dance moves, then have their opponents see those same moves on the screen as arrows and try to replicate them!

Or do they already have that?

I enjoy DDR and even though I wouldn't buy this game it's a HUGE deal. This is Konami going all out making a game that doesn't require Mario to sell. That is major major major.

Personally I hope they bring back the mode where you share an arrow bar and the arrows are different colors.  On for the left player, one for the right, and one for both.  It's only in the original but it's great.

Boo for wired Dance Pads.
Also I hope there is a classic controller mode because I am a Controller Ranger on the game.  I like playing DDR a lot more with my Gamepad then my Dance pads.

FINALLY, some REAL support from Konami!!!

Has 4 player DDR ever been done before?

Now if only we can get Capcom to wake the f*ck up we'd be all set.

Yeah!  The same day they reveal Dewy and I'm questioning Konami's true intentions for support and we get a "normal" DDR.  The fact that the Cube mats work just makes it that much cooler.  You figure they would want to make us buy all new mats but they didn't.  The best part is if you own Mario DDR then you already have a mat for player two when you get this game (I assume it will come with a mat).

I actually thought Mario DDR was an ideal crossover but I think it is a better sign that Konami feels they can sell a DDR for the Wii without putting Nintendo characters in it.

*shrug* ironically DDR Mario Mix was my favorite of the series because the hokey Story and how it mixed Dance and Mini-games.
I enjoy and own the rest(Well not the XBox ones and Disney Mix (You know how hard that is to find at a reasonable price?)). (Also own all 2 cube games that use the mats...)

Do you have the DDR for the GBC?  I think that was only a Japanese release.  Did that come with a dance pad?  o_0

I rather enjoyed Dance Dance Recolution: Mario Mix(And still do, almost a year after purchasing it) and am very excited to see not only that Konami is developing a quality Dance Dance game for the Wii, but adding exclusive Wiimote controls to boot!

Yet another surprise announcement for me, and another hole in my pocket book!

Fantastic news, though I'm not sure why they bothered to give a hands/feet-on demonstration of this. They haven't even decided how they're going to use the motion control.
