Author Topic: Wii shop and Internet channel not working for me... (Read 6490 times)

I've been having this problem with both channels since last night. I can't connect to either of them. When I connect to the Wii shop it just gives me an error message. On the internet channel I get the "unable to reach the server" channel.

I would blame my internet connection, but Wiiconnect24 is working fine since I am able to send and receive messages just fine and I tested my connection and it works. fine.

I even checked my DS and online games to see if the problem was with my router and they connected and played just fine.

Any idea what is going on? Is Nintendo having problems or is my Wii screwing up?

I am worried that they might be screwed up for good and need to get another Wii...

Like I said, the weather channel, the news channels, the Mii channel and Wiiconnect24 are working fine. Its just those two channels that are working at all.

I had about the same problem for about an 30 minutes today. I use the DS Dongle to connect my Wii to the internet though, and sometimes it has trouble creating an IP, although today wasn't the case. I got into selecting Mastercard/Visa screen to get more WiiPoints for Contra 3 and Mario Kart 64, and then all of a sudden I couldn't connect after that. I tried a few times and wouldn't even let me reconnect to the VC Channel area. After about 30 minutes of thinking it was my dongle and getting it to work, I have a feeling it might have just been some type of downtime for Nintendo. I finally got it to work and downloaded the 2 games, but I definately was having a problem connecting earlier.

Edit: I don't think it was my dongle because I used it to connect through Wi-Fi on my DS, and I was connected to put my Credit Card info, then it disconnected me before I could process my credit card.

Here's the problem, the problem has lasted nearly all day and I don't even reach the welcome screen on the Wii shop channel. At least I reach the start page on the internet channel but I never go past beyond the loading screen in Wii shop.

I believe the Internet Channel start page is actually an offline webpage built into the program itself, which is why you can access it. Last night my brother had a lot of problems trying to use the Wii shop, but it cleared up around 11:00pm Eastern.

I'm telling you, guys, I am THIS close to re-formatting the system's memory because I STILL can't connect to the Wii shop and the internet channel.

I checked all of the manuals and all suggest things I've already done. I checked the connection a million times and its working fine, the Mii channels, the weather channel and the news channels are working fine and I can receive messages just fine.

Just what the hell is wrong?

Reformatting wouldn't be too bad, as long as you have your saves backed up..

Virtual Console games might be a pain to restore too. I think you have to contact Nintendo about a re-download, although I am not 100% clear how it works.

I thought you could re-download as much as you want, as long as it's on the same system. Or you could back them up on an SD card.

I don't think you can back up VC games to an SD card (the Wii Shopping Channel Q&A says you can't at any rate), but you can re-download stuff whenever you need to, so that should be no big deal.

My question is, if I re-format my system will I also lose all the images I have on the photo channel as well as all the Miis and the friends I have on my address book?

Also, the Wii says that even channels and data saved on an SD Card can't be restored if you erase the memory.

you transfer VC games through the channel section of transfer files, not the same place where you game saves are.

If it's truly a reformat, you'll lose everything. You should really call Nintendo before you doing anything drastic. They should know more than what's printed in the manual.

Here's the funny part...

I checked this morning and the Internet channel was working for me. But here's the thing, only Homestar runner is working. All of the websites I have saved on my Internet channel are still not working.

The Wii shop channel gets stuck on the "Now connecting, please wait' screen. It's like the problem is about to be solved but is still stuck somewhere along the way.

OK, now this is beyond WTF...

For a week, the internet channel was working fine. I was doing everything from watching videos on You tube to playing the Wii enabled Homestar runner games without any problem. But last night while I was surfing the program stopped working. It wouldn't connect to any of the sites I have bookmarked. I checked this morning and it still isn't working.

Not only that, Wii shop seems to stop working entirely for me. It would get to the "Connecting please wait" screen, but would freeze there. One night it was able to connect, but crashed my Wii and needed to restart.

I am getting worried here. I REALLY hope this doesn't mean I have to return my Wii or something. The system is getting online fine since I can send Miis fine and send and receive messages with ease and both the weather and news channel can connect and send upsets with no problem whatsoever. Its those two channels that seem to have a lot of problems as of late.

Not yet, although I've seen that suggestion pop up many and time.

The thing is that the Wii shop and Internet channels were working fine with my router's current settings, so I doubt changing the channels would help it. Plus, not only do I not know how to change the channels I am afraid of doing so since I have a complex system set and thus changing it could alter everything.
