Video Games Live - my review

My review of Video Games Live

I’d recommend this show to gamers, obviously…but what about other people? Well, good music is good music, no matter what it is originally composed for or where it came from. The visuals make it more exciting than most other orchestral performances. So, yes, non-gamers will have a good time too, but clearly, gamers will have the most fun.

Geez, I'm really wordy.  It took all afternoon and all evening to write, and I feel like I might still rewrite some parts...

Let me guess: someone's going to say "tl;dr" ("too long; didn't read"), right?  >_<

I've never reviewed a concert before and being more of a visual person than an aural one I can't comment on the music other than that I liked it.  That's why the review sounds more like a recap of the montages used.  I wonder how many times I used the word "montage" in that whole thing?

I do have more respect for Tommy Tallarico now, though.

I actually read (nearly) all of that!

It really does sound great, and I might check it out if it comes to Calgary. You're right; it's hard to "review" the music, but I liked how you went through all of the performances.

Your review makes it sound much longer than 2 and a half hours

It will come to Calgary, but not 'til like November.  It's a long ways away, but then it's likely that the show will be different than what I saw, or else you would've forgotten my recap by then.  So I wouldn't've really ruined it for you.

I had seen not just the Mario montage but some other ones here and there on the Internet, including on YouTube (just look up "Video Games Live"), even the night before I saw it, but it's still different to be there and see it live.

I saw it!  If it's coming to Calgary, then I might go again, even.  I wonder if I can get an idea of the playlist ahead of time...that might be the deciding factor.

I noticed some feedback during quiet parts and also during God of War, but otherwise I didn't find any flaws in the sound department.

The interactive parts were fun.  It looks like you were there on Tuesday?  They brought the Bioware guys on stage on Monday, which was kind of cool.

I agree that the Halo 3 trailer piece seemed out of place.  It actually felt like I was watching a live concert advertisement for Halo 3.  I guess whoever composed the sound and dialogue for the trailer should be proud(?)
That's my opinion, not yours.
