I used to be a one-console, Nintendo games only fanboy. But I've seen the error of my ways. I'm now the buy-Touch Detective-before-NSMB type of Fanboi... and I couldn't be happier!

All over the internet, people are complaining about about ports and re-used content like SSX Blur or PoP:RS. You know what? I only owned the GC back then and I didn't have disposable income at the time either. I was also slowly losing interest in the gaming scene... then WHAM! WII! WOW!

Third parties are littering the Wii with titles that looked mediocre before, but now look drool-worthy through the infrared camera of my wiimote!

My first SSX game? Check!
My first Far Cry game? Check!
My first Metal Slug Game? Check!
My first PoP game? Check!
My first Golfing game? Check!
My first (non-stolen) CoD game? Check!
My first (non-stolen) Sims game? Check!
My first Rayman game? Check!
My first Tony Hawk game? Check!
My first... well, second Madden game for my dad? Check!
My first Medal of Honor game? Check!
My first Band of Brother's Game? Check!
My first Comic-book-licensed-game? Check!
My first EA game not called Madden (i.e. Godfather) Check! Check!

*DEEPINTAKEOFBREATH*

And almost... almost my first Need for Speed game! Almost!

Dear third parties,

I know you guys will run out of old games to port over soon, but don't worry. When you start making completely new games for the Wii, I'll be right there with another amazing first: a Nintendo fanboi library heavy on third parties and light on first party games!

Eagerly anticipating your third party wiileases, no matter what the internets say,

So did you get Trauma Center: Second Opinion or not?

I'll never touch half of those games because they are incompatible with me on fundamental levels, in which case "i'd rather spend my money on something else" begins to apply.

And there is no Band of Brothers game.  You self-hype is confusing you now.

That was what I thought until I learned not to be a Nintendo-style-gameplay snob and also became more serious about making games and the philosophies behind them! Just because Miyamoto is god doesn't mean other opinions and value systems don't apply!

Nintendo gaming making me a more tolerant, accepting, "better" person? Check!

Different strokes for different folks I guess.  I've never been Nintendo-only in game purchases.  I'm a SNES guy.  I was there when Nintendo had major third party support so that makes sense.  To me the N64 and Gamecube should be treated as unfortunate exceptions.

Still I find that lineup of third party games rather uninteresting.  Well Metal Slug's cool and I do like Tony Hawk but see no need to own more than one game in that series (have THPS3 on the Cube and it is perfectly sufficient when I feel the urge) but the rest just isn't my thing.  EA and Ubisoft are generic and I just couldn't care less about them.

Now when Konami or Capcom or Square is pumping stuff out THEN you'll see what really good third party support is all about.  Good third party support is when your console is the "default" console for when a game is made.  You assume it will be on your console until it is stated otherwise.

You know quite a few of those were available for the GC, too?

Yeah, but they didn't use the wiimote!

I honestly wouldn't have bought a lot of these games with a normal controller. But viewed through the rosy IR-camera of the Wiimote, all of a sudden I want these games and more importantly, believe I'll enjoy them!

Edit: Also...

My first Sonic game? Check!

What?  You've never played the Genesis Sonics?  No wonder you're so wowed by such uninteresting third party games.

This was the case for the PS2 for the longest time, though.

If a console game was announced, you could just assume it was for the PS2 and you'd be right 80% of the time.

Ugh.
I'm not Nintendo exclusive, but the third party games I buy tend to be pretty high caliber.  Not all of those are bad, of course, but several of them are just status quo mediocrity.

I don't want to sound too critical and dampen your spirits, but having high expectations isn't a bad thing.  So long as you recognize what games EXCEL and what games are simply good, and nothing more.
Also, if that Sonic game is 3D throw it away right now and get yourself a proper, 2D Sonic game.  Preferably Sonic 2.

I've played 'em, but not extensively, nor have I ever really owned one. This will be my first real sonic game, unwanted gifts excluded. Well... I DID buy the VC one first technically, but that's not real, it's digital!

I have very high expectations, but I also like to think that I can downshift real fast. I've learned to be less picky while at the same time remaining just as, if not becoming more, critical. It helps that I also like analyzing how and why things were done and analyzing my experience with the game, and after all: even mediocre games have redeeming qualities, and even bad games can teach us things.

For instance, that Leisure Suit Larry game for the PC? Awesome quarter's minigame that NEEDS to be on the Wii, interesting conversation mini-game replacing dialogue boxes, and oh-to-be-a-level-designer and design interesting things like college campuses!
