“Thank you for calling Target where we have already sold out of the Nintendo Wii, what can help you with today?”

that reminds me of the Best Buy message during, before and after Thangsgiving and Christmas only it included the PS3 in the sentence(atleast it did around Thanksgiving).

I highly doubt they would ship more in January than November and December. "Only" a million in January LOL. That'd break the record.

He's not being rude: it's a jab at the (then) PGC staff who laughed at people who preordered for preordering, saying, "You'll be able to walk into Wal-Mart at noon the next day and get a Wii."
"OK, first we need someone to complain about something trivial. Golden or S_B should do. Then we get someone to defend the game, like Bill or Mashiro. Finally add some Unclebob or Pro666 randomness and the thread should go to hell right away." -Pap64

Any luck on your area, S_B, or are we going to get never ending rants again? :p

Wii Get!

My brother drove 45 minutes to Best Buy this morning to see if he'd have any chance at getting a Wii(Per Nintendo World Report's "Sunday Wii-launch" rumors), and success!  He was number 44 in line with only 45 Wii's being available, a minute later another 12 arrived and were turned away.

Thank you very much guys for the early rumors!

I see on Ebay that the Wii is still selling for 350$ which is pretty amazing considering even the 360 during its after-christmas shortage barely sold for over 50$ if that.

I've been trying to get a Wii since launch (not real actively, but still), and finally got one today. Got to Best Buy two hours early and got voucher number fourteen out of forty-something. When they handed out the vouchers a half hour before opening there were about eight still available. By ten o clock, when they started letting us in, all the systems were spoken for. Pretty amazing that it's still drawing those crowds.

Yeah, I underestimated demand (though admittedly I didn't check if any were available at launch). You had to wait a week for that, not just a day.

I can understand that, but in defense, it was thought that there would be 1 million Wii systems on launch day.

I didn't pre-order and I was still able to get one, of course it took a 12 hour wait outside in the cold but hey, I gots me one. ( quote from Steven Colbert)

I honestly can not believe how much demand there is for the Wii. Seriously, I never anticipated demand to be so damn high, especially 2 months after its release. Out here in Rochester, NY I haven't seen a single Wii on a store shelf since launch. I wonder when supply will outpace demand and how many systems Nintendo will have moved at that point.

I will say though, it is nice being a Nintendo fan right now. Somehow Nintendo and Sony flipped spots and for once the public opinion is starting to side with Nintendo. Hopefully these heavy sales and a favorable public opinion will result in a greater number of games being developed for the Wii.

Well, it will be interesting to see this month's sales.  I do believe the demand is high, but is Nintendo actually putting out a decent supply?

I scored 3 Wiis and have fulfilled all of my obligations for the people I care about.

Henceforth, anyone who approaches me IRL looking for a Wii can GO F*CK THEMSELVES. If they wanted one, they should have been in line with me at 8:30 AM in freezing weather.

I'm pretty sure I said Wal-Mart... someone else may of said Gamestop.

While we were wrong on many levels, Nintendo didn't ship as many as they reported either, so they share the blame.

But even if they did, the system would have still been beyond sold out on the day after launch. The lines in all the stores went far past the number of systems per store.

I'm glad it's over, but I still feel anxious every time I see a store which could potentially sell Wiis and I get the urge to call them and check.

Seriously, I think the fact that I've memorized the phone numbers of over 10 retail stores, including two Wal-Marts, says more about me than I care to think...
