Oh lovely, a mild flame thread on segagamer's "unique" grammatical style turns into a thread about personal style...My personal grammatical weakness is commas, which I tend to stick places in sentences where they technically aren't needed...

I tend to talk in the same manner in real life as I type here online, though I'm not QUITE as blatently cute and feminine with my word choice outside the internet realm...I do, however, like to use phrases like "Oh my" and "Oh dear," so I guess I can't completely hide my bizarre personality...

I know what you mean about commas, I use them like Elaine used exclamation points on Seinfeld!

I may be wordy and overuse commas, ellipses, and especially sub-sentences in parentheses (just like this one here for no reason), but that may be because of the pauses and side comments that I probably do make while speaking.

It would be amusing, though, if some people really did speak like they wrote.

I try to keep my grammar and spelling impeccable, but I often leave off the period to keep an air of internet sass

I talk the same on the Internet as I would to someone in real life. Of course, my writing here is revised to make my ideas easier to understand. I think about language quite a bit, actually, and try to avoid the standard high school chatty talk ("Yeah so sometimes I'll be like all using my computer and then I like check out these forums and...").
Thanks for listening.

I try to be correct (go Firefox spell check!) but you can't be all the time. That said, the more you attempt to make your writing on forums better the more your writing will improve overall.

Those who talk to me on the various IM's will know that my typing there is far worse, ridden with typos and spelling errors. It's a far more casual environment than a forum.

And of course I don't talk the way I type. As an Australian, I'm required to cut off the end of every word I don't abbreviate. Ya jus woulden ge it, en thin less ov me.

Well I first would like to say wow, I didnt expect so many people to reply. This turned from a joke post putin the wrong forum to a nice conversation. I would like to apologize to vudu for getting all mad at him though.

I have been having a bad week and that last post just put me over the edge. To be honest I dont talk at all like I do here, I try and be informal and all because that is how I tend to think most of the time. But in real life I am much harder to understand. I tend to speak like my friends, just not s much of a accent as some. And I do use exsessive slang and a mix of English and Spanish cuz thast how everyone else is round here.

Grammar is the one erea I do make more mistakes than spelling, partly because I have been out of school for so long I tend to forget some of the rules. Anyone who ever went to my forum and read the stories I posted can see that I can write, well I'll say decent, if I put in the effort. Ok well thast enougfh dont want to get too long carry on everyone and stay cool and yeah.

I don't even talk in english in real life...

I should do it once in a while, my pronounciation must be terrible.

Sometimes I speak like I write, and then I catch myself, because I sound like a real nerdy nerd.

Writing should be more formal than speaking and vice versa.  If I said the sentence you are currently reading out loud, it would seem clumsy and overwrought.  The very word, "overwrought" is so big and heavy, it smashes into the ground like a sky-diving hippopotamus when you say it aloud.  It might be acceptable in a formal speech, but even there you need to watch out for using too many big words or you just seem stuffy and boring.

But hey if I write like this it might be okay for an IM chat or talking in real life...uhhh...but it's not so good when I'm writing for something serious or even for an, um, forum.
That's my opinion, not yours.
