« on: January 05, 2007, 10:10:36 PM »
As some of you know, Europe gets VC updates on Fridays. This week we got the huge, monumental list of:

Super Mario Bros. (NES, 500)
Motoroader (Turbografx*, 600)

*=supports  5 players

Yeah, Super Probotector (Contra) was meant to show up ages ago and never did..

Anyone here played Motoroader? I have no clue with TG-16 games. Worthy?

I know Nintendo do not want to release all the big games at once but it has been pretty weak so far

How does it do 5 player?  Do you have to use some mix of Wii Remotes and GameCube controllers?

That's how Bomberman works, so I assume it'd work the same way...

Agreed in full.

Also, I don't understand why more 3rd parties aren't jumping on the bandwagon. It costs nothing to pay for the bandwidth to download these, the prices equate sodomy (considering the cost of download and the fact that these are IPs which are NOT making money, it's sodomy), and the larger the Wii's userbase becomes, the more of their games will be sold.

We joke about the DS printing money when the reality is that it at least has manufacturing costs. Bandwidth is cheap, especially when you buy it in such quantity. You'd basically be taking dead games, games which will never make you a penny ever again, and with MINIMAL effort, making it so they become a solid source of income again. So few people need to download these in order for them to return a profit that NOT adding your company's games equates idiocy.

Where are all of the RPGs? Where are the fighting games? Where are the obscure platformers of the NES, SNES and Genesis era which were sleeper hits? Where's Earthbound, Metroid, Chrono Cross, FFVI, the Zeldas? Where are the Phantasy Stars, Sonic's 2-Knuckles?

It's crap like this which makes me begrudgingly agree with Ian about Nintendo erroneously believing that releasing VC games even BEGINS to equate new software releases. Nintendo would do better to simply release tons of VC games so that going to the VC is like looking at a huge wall of old titles to choose from, not trickling them out in the hopes that people will be bored and buy sh*t like Urban Champion...

Also, Nintendo really needs to talk to the people at MAME and license some of their code. The arcade market is a whole other sector which could be tapped and is likewise dead in the water right now.

Where are all of the RPGs?

Not going to be released since they'll provide way too much playtime for the money which for Nintendo means the buyers won't buy another game quickly?

Not to be a bastard but Gametap has some arcade titles already.
It's the only source I know of for 194X and other assorted titles...

I'd rather have Chrono Trigger then Cross.... Although a PS1 game showing up would make waves, although multi-disc ones probably are the least likely.

Anyway, in terms of third parties, I assume its a similar situation as the system's games. Many were probably leery of it, and will need to see results before they jump on... results which should have been showing in these two months and convincing firms to sign on. I was talking with a third party about the service, way back when the system was called Revolution, and their response was simply "we aren't interested right now", and I assume many were the same about the then unproven service.

The problem one has to consider now, though, is that there is going to be a lag time between a company figuring they want to have their content hosted, doing the legal/paper work to make that possible, and then actually making the emulated software.

Going from Hudson's comments about Dungeon Explorer, I wouldn't be surprised if these firms are having to hire people (or a person) to do the emulation for their products either, which could take even more time as well.

Sure it will.  We just have to wait a few years.
That's my opinion, not yours.
