3rd Parties in 2007?
« on: January 05, 2007, 07:01:21 AM »
There's Sonic...and? Nintendo has a bevy of great games but I'm having trouble finding any significant non-Nintendo games for this year. The lineup is richer than the Gamecube's first full year but the 3rd parties are even more barren. There's Crystal Chronicles, I guess. SSX Blur and Brothers in Arms count too, but they're not exactly exclusives. No More Heroes?

Just seems slim...

I figured it would be slim because everyone is hurting right now and desparate to make thier Ps3 games make money. Also exclusives or not so what those are looking to be good games. Honestly who cares if a gameis exclusive or not as long as its a good game. Besides technically every game for Wii is exclusive by default.

2007 is going to be pretty barren as far as third parties go. There's just no getting over that. Not only did third parties have to get over Nintendo's less than stellar past, Nintendo themselves waited until the last minute to give out dev kits/shed any sort of light on the Wii's features for developers, so even developers that would have been on board from the very beginning aren't going to have great games ready until the end of 2007 at the earliest.

It's mainly because all the major titles are in the next fiscal year...We'll start hearing more announcements over these next few months...

I know this is not comforting to everyone else, but I'm gonna enjoy these so-called Wii Ports. I've never played a PoP game in my life, so Rival Swords is a must buy, and I'm really hoping they bring Sims Wii over, and I'll get SSX Blur because I want to be convinced that Tony Hawk Downhill Jam was just one bad game that doesn't dictate an entire genre, and I'm curious about that GodFather game... hmm... also, I'm SOOOO looking forward to Cooking Mama Wii!

Looking for specific AAA tentpole titles the pickings are extremely slim, yes, but until the AAA third party titles land in late 2007 or early 2008, I'll be busy with the smaller releases. Tentpole AAA titles until then will all be first party games *shrug*.

I wouldn't think about it too much for a few weeks yet.  Generally you don't start hyping up your new games first thing in the new year.

Honestly, the first half is probably going to be dead slow, like any new console, but by Christmas things will be a lot better.
That's my opinion, not yours.

When does DQS come out? That's another to add...

I agree with the OP, though, looks a bit meager currently.

The Wii is likely to follow in the footsteps of the DS which was scare on third-party support at start but as the console proved itself in sales and a few daring third-parties made some truly innovative and well received titles, it gained more and more and JUST LOOK AT IT NOW.
Fortunately Nintendo's own releases seem much more evenly spread out over the first year of the Wii's life than they were in the same time-span on the Gamecube. Plus we got the virtual console. Hopefully Nintendo will begin to release the GOOD games once people really start to feel the drought.

Never happening.

They'll probably just add stylus/knife/wiimote support and use old game engines, just like Deadly Silence.

As long as they don't screw up the controls I think you will have a blast with Rival Swords.  Two Thrones was the best of the three in the Sands of Time trilogy and getting an upgraded port of a great game sounds good to me.  If it's really good, I may double dip...once it's $19.99.

I personally am hoping that along with Nintendo's on-line service some developers will announce plans to bring tried-and-true PC games to the Wii.  I wouldn't mind some decent ports of Battlefield 2, Half-Life 2, Unreal Tournament, as well as some good RTS games like Command & Conquer, Medieval Total War 2, and Warcraft III.

But yeah, so far the Wii's largest issue is its complete utter lack of decent AAA games, something the PS3 offers in plenty.  This is a concern to be sure of, let's hope the Wii can hang on to its popularity long enough to last into 2008.
