I pronounce everything the way it is written but I pronounce y as ü instead of i. Oh and Zelda, I pronounce that with a soft s instead of a z.

I'm glad most of my pronounciations are how the majority here say them, and am amused or intrigued by the other pronounciations, but in the end it doesn't matter much.

In Pokémon, I kept saying "Rayquaza" like Ray-Kwaz-Za but then they pronounced it Ray-Kwayz-Za in the seventh Pokémon movie. Considering there's one z and it looks like Pig Latin for "Quazar", they're probably right. But considering they say "Poke-Uh-Mon" as well as "Poke-Ay-Mon" when anybody can see the accent (é) that really should make it the latter, an official source could be confused or downright mistaken as well - so even if they pronounced them in the game or other Zelda material there would still be debates.

Similarly, in Star Wars you have "Haahn Solo", but Lando, his pal, says "Hann Solo".

kdr you don't count your German, although....put up a sound byte, cus i can imagine how you prounce Zelda withthe soft s, or possibly Tselda., It probably sounds cool either way. and jonleung Edmontosaurus has more sylables then Edmund thats why its pronounced differently

Regarding Deku, am I the only one who pronounces it Day-Koo. Myself and my friends have always pronounced it in this fashion.

Oh, and how about Malon. I have heard many other people say may-lon, I personally pronounce it Mal-In (Mal, pronounced like the name of the captain in Firefly).

This is exactly why voice acting would suck. Everyone has their own way of saying all of these words. If Nintendo were to step in and mess with that, everytime a word was said differently than how you originally pronounced it, it would be a detractor from the game and it would fail to immerse you in the same way it always has.

If people can create functional but fictional languages (apparently Klingon is) then it would be cool if they could at least come up with a Hylian/Hyrulian accent.

Oh, man, what if the Hylian accent turned out to be actually really HAWT? o_0 You know, like French or Australian...heck, any foreign accent? I'd watch any scenes where Zelda speaks over and over and over and over... *drool* Or if it was really that hot, any of the females, really.

Pony is "poh-nee", thus "ee-poh-nah". Using my logic it would only be "eh-poh-nah" if pony was "poh-nay".

I do too. Though sometimes I say "dee-koo" as well. I think I originally said one and my brother said the other so we both flip-flop between both.

I pronounce Malon phonetically.

Originally in A Link to the Past I read "Kakariko" as "Karkariko" and thus pronounce it REALLY wrong half the time. "Kack-ah-ree-koh" or "care-care-ee-koh" if I'm in dumbass mode.

Neen Teyn Doh. I will however continue to say it wrong, and attribute its mispronunciation as the proper way to say it in English.

Doesn't NOA pronounce it "Nin Ten Doh"? I always hear that in ads so I'd say it's the proper way to say it in English.

I also call id Software "eye dee software", which is wrong, but I always pronounce Pokemon correctly even if I'm too lazy to but in the accent in my spelling.

Deku = Day-koo
Hylian = High-lee-en (like Hyrule, jeez, get with the program guys!)
Malon = Mal-on
Malo = Mal-oh (like the last part of marshmallow)

It's pronounced in the standard Japanese syllable-metric (pretty sure I just made up a word!) way..."Oh-ka-ree-na"..."De-ku"...etc...

The only word I think is arguable is "Hylian," which could either be "High-lee-en" or "Hih-lee-en"...I personally find the latter to sound better...

We're only arguing in this thread because we can no longer argue about which side of Hyrule is west or east and where things should be on the map. We made an even more pointless argument because, nintendo fanboys that we are, we're not used to having so little to complain about.

I was thinking about how words are in Japanese and was thinking about how the Japanese would say Ka-ka-ri-ko and Ge-ru-do.

Until this topic I had never even considered that Gerudo could be pronounced with a "J" sound but the Japanese pronounciation might clear things up.
