SD card problem?
« on: December 22, 2006, 01:04:08 PM »
I seem to have a problem with my Wii's SD card reader: it doesn't read the SD card I put in it!  I loaded up a SD card with some MP3s to play while playing Excite Truck, but when I fire it up, the SD card isn't detected at all.  I looked into the manual to see what it SHOULD look like, but there's no option for the SD card in the data management screen for it.

First, are you looking at it from the Excite Truck menu or the Wii menu? You can't see the mp3s from the Wii system menu, just game saves and channels.  And you won't even see that if you haven't updated the firmware. The launch firmware doesn't have SD support.

Okay, that explains it.  I am unable to connect to the Internet through the wireless, so that means no firmware updates for me 'till I get an Ethernet adapter.  In the mean time, I guess I'll just have to cringe or turn off the music when playing Excite Truck.

I was under the impression that Excite Truck still has MP3 support whether or not the firmware has been updated. The only thing that the firmware adds is the ability to back up game saves from the Wii's internal memory to an SD card.
Thanks for listening.

Apparently not, as my Wii doesn't even detect its presence in the data management system screen.

Are u sure....Try playing Excite Truck and right before you start the race there should be a plus sign saying music or something like that.  Hit it and select SD Card.  I believe u can also do the same thing mid game.

Ok, I got a question that doesn't seem to have been brought up....

How do you format an SD card in the Wii.  I know if data is corrupted and something is messed up, it will pop up and ask you if you do ( probley, I really don't know for sure)

My problem is my computer took my 2 gig card and formated it down to a 1 gig, and before my Wii was able to see all 2 gigs.  So I would think there has gotta be a way to format it

ok, did some playing around and it looks like if the file system is messed up and doesn't have a proper FAT or FAT32 file system.  The Wii will simply just tell you that it can't use the SD card
