I'm pretty sure it has EVERYTHING to do with that lawsuit, but its still someting that should have been done in the first place.
Sony & Nintendo both already offer 1 year warranty as standard practice. To offer anything less would make it seem that you aren't  very confident in the manufacturing or overall quality of your product.

Since when has Sony been offering a year warranty? If are referring to the PS2 they lost a class action suit over their constant DRE problems

Sony has never offered a year warranty they traditionally offer a 90 day warranty.

Well maybe not Sony (I've never owned a playstation, I just assumed), but with all the complaints, I figured they had to have long warranty program inplace. I guess I was wrong, but my point still stands, Sony manufacturing and quality is apparently shite & I guwess MS thinks they finally got a handle on whatever their problem was.

Sony only offered a 90-day warranty on the PS2 for years. One of the changes with the PS2-two was the extension of the warranty to one year. I think.
