Question about the pointer
« on: December 14, 2006, 12:26:01 PM »
So I noticed while playing Madden, that if I twist the remote sideways, left to right is up and down, and up and down is left and right.  But, in the Wii menu's interface the hand turns, but the up down directions will stay the same.  May be a dumb question but does anyone know why this is?
Also, from the same position the Madden pointer is awesomely smooth while the interface pointer is choppy.

Perhaps the choppiness can be attributed to interfering light sources or the sensitivity not being high enough in your configuraiton.

Nintendo compensated for the rotation. EA did not. It is all in how the game was programmed.
Thanks for listening.

Nintendo takes into account measurements from the accelerometer to figure out which way is down (thanks to gravity), so the Wii knows when the remote is sideways or upside down.  It sounds like EA is ignoring the accelerometer and assuming you're holding the remote right side up.

I expect nothing more from EA, to be honest.

I figured it was something easy, just curious.  But the pointer is very smooth in Madden compared to the menu.  I thought the choppiness on the menu might be cause of the lip on my TV, but wasn't sure because of the smoothness in Madden, probably my sensitivity setting.

Everything other than the main channel interface appears to have smooth pointer control.  I HAVE NO CLUE WHY.

I remember it being smooth before my initial system update.

Cuz "Genesis DOES"
and "Nintendo PHAILS"

I've had both those same problems (gitchy in one half of Madden, as well as only on the title screen).  I've set it up on 6 different displays now, and each one had it's own quirks.  Angle from the bar, distance from the bar, brightness of other lights around, and other electronic equipment that may be sending of IR have all come into play.  That just means that there is no single solution other then to move things around and keep experimenting.  What I've found, is that in every situation (from large screen TVs, to projectors, to small TVs with a ton of extra equipment) isolating the bar and/or the problem is the only way to go.  Move it 5 feet.  Try it there.  Move it back and see what's different between those two spots.  I've had problems in every location, and fixed them all in a matter of minutes.  It just takes a little bit of experimenting.  ;-)
