Wow, I must have been very lucky then. When I walked into Best Buy on Tuesday they had plenty of copies there, so I figured all other stores would have received a good amount.

Wait a second, now that I think about it there was several empty boxes lying around the videogame section. Which means I arrived right after they put all the copies on the shelves, which explains why there was plently of copies around when I arrived. Well I'm sorry now for anyone that read my post and thought they'd be able to find easily find a copy then.

Just as Nintendo competes with other companies to release products, you compete with other customers to acquire those products in the immediate period following their release. It usually doesn't feel like you have to compete, but there never is a guarantee against shortages.

"Every other time" Nintendo WAS NOT POPULAR. But this time it's Zelda and it is WAY POPULAR, despite already being available on Wii.

I had TP GC reserved at Toys R Us. I visited the store 2 days after TP arrived. My copy was the only one sitting in the glass case behind the clerks. Point it, it was THERE, and it was for ME.

If pre-orders during the GC life were any indication, they were a common way of acquiring free gifts. So you've got a game reserved for you, and you might get something neat. Not many negatives to developing a pre-ordering habit.

You'll get your game, and get it on time. And you wouldn't run into the issues expressed in this thread.

But be my guest, go ahead and get the game 2 months from now, I'm sure it'll be everywhere by then. You can have a Happy Zelda-ful Valentine's Day.

This is different. I can live with waiting to play the game. The real issue is concern that what we see in stores now is it. Since Nintendo obviously wants to push the Wii version it's unknown if they'll even bother to restock the Cube version.

I typically don't pre-order because I usually want to see at least one review first and I don't like being tied to a particular store since other places may end up having a better price. Plus as odd as this sounds if I don't tie myself to a store I stand a chance of snaging a US copy. Why should I care? In Canada first party games always have English and French on them which looks like crap. Plus sometimes they take out non-essential parts of the manual to save costs since they double every page for seperate sections for the two languages. My favourite game store doesn't take pre-orders and sometimes gets games from NOA instead of NoC.

If a pre-order has a free gift involved I go for it but otherwise it 99.9999999999% of the time doesn't matter.

Why should I let a store have my cash for an undetermined amount of time just so I can *maybe* have a better chance at getting a game/system from them?

We won't even go into all the Wii/PS3/360 "preorder" issues. One EB I called said they had some GCN Zeldas eariler in the day that they were holding for pre-orders from 1 1/2-2 years ago, but they had gotten an e-mail telling them to go ahead and sell them. Apparently, EBGames is okay with holding your cash for two years, but if you take more than two days to pick up your game, you're SOL

Besides, if I had pre-ordered, I would have ended up paying more - since places that pre-order typically don't price match.

Speaking of Pre Orders and Gifts though...

Preorders are BS and it is just a way of companies building up some extra bank by not actually doing anything. Your money and everyone elses money is accruing them interest. I'll be damned before I let Gamestop/EB Games get pre-order money from me (unless I am getting something in return), so it can earn them more money on top of the heaploads of cash they make from taking games and reselling them.

Preordering ensures you being a customer of that particular store and that store earning more money than they should on a sale. All of those Zelda preorders from 3 years ago have probably earned quite a bit of money sitting in a bank account at this point.

Explain where the "more money" comes from when the $30 I put down for Zelda, Rayman, Trauma Center, Monkey Ball, Red Steel, and Excite Truck were credited toward the end purchase?

Through my friend in Cali, I've had a pre-order at EBGames since July 2005 but they didn't honor it for now.
They said they got shorted on pre-orders and not everyone (including me!) got called yet.

There surely aren't "plenty of copies." I picked up what looked like the last copy at my nearest Best Buy late last night. Though their website says that that location is the only one near me that still has any. I got the price match--without verifying stock at the nearest Circuit City, because they hung up on the girl. Hahaha.

I'm officially joining the conspiracists on this one. It's obvious Nintendo has, at the least, given this game very low pressing priority. If they don't ship more copies before Christmas, I'm inclined to believe that they're even sabotaging games sales for the sake of the Wii. Out with the old, in with the new, if you can get your hands on it. To hell with 'the GameCube still has some life left in it.' Hope there aren't too many disappointed Zelda fans on Jesus Day.

We would like to play (Zelda, motherf^cker).

On the most basic level, if you put $30 down in pre-ordered games three months before they come out, EBGames gets to put that $30 is a savings account and earn interest on it for three months. It's way more complicated than that, I'm sure, what they do with your pre-order cash - but the basic idea is about the same.

This is why stores *love* gift cards. They get your money for a period of time to spend however they want and it doesn't cost them a dime. (well, the plastic card costs them...)

i preordered from toyrus. Bastards never sent me the game. I called on wednsday and they said i have to wait till next shipment. I cancelled, went to bestbuy and picked it up and saved on shipping at the sametime. They had 3 left i think. I was going to pickup far cry at the same time but bestbuy didnt have it. Left best buy and drove striaght to Gamespot were they had plenty of copies of farcry and zelda for GC. Bought farcry. Should have just went to gamestop first......

UncleBob hit the nail on the head. That's exactly what I meant.

In general it isn't a big deal, but with a company like EB/Gamestop, I just don't want them getting anything extra. They have the worst employees (who bully customers into preordering) and really bone the customer on buy back prices. With the way their company operates they don't deserve to make any extra money on my money.

Yup, I did this afternoon. Don't bother trying though, they cancelled my order 20 minutes later saying the item had been discontinued.

On a side note, the site is reliable, I have a few friends who use it all the time and have had no problems.

Something's not right.

I was checking the other day to see if it showed us getting any more copies of this in (I was already looking for DSLites) and, according to our system, our cost on the game was $4.95. Now, the markup on video game software is pretty good, but it ain't no where near that good. Does anyone else here work retail who could check the costs on this particular item?

I had to beg the GS I pre-ordered at to hold onto my copy a day longer than they were going to. I was on hold for 10 minutes waiting for the manager... oh god I was desperate! I begged them with all my heart!

When I want the next day right before closing time (I was far away and couldn't get to the GS the day before), I was able to snag the last copy, the one they had saved. Then as a reward, I bought three more full price Wii games there DESPITE my growing dislike for the store. I had to show them my appreciation for their service in letting me get my Twilight Princess for GC game.

Yesterday I was in Wal-Mart finishing up my Christmas shopping and they had a fair amount of copies there. It looked like there was about six or seven but that's about how many copies are visible in the display case for every Cube game so I don't know if that was it. The supply looked normal next to the other games anyway.

Considering that Nintendo isn't advertising this I figure only the hardcore even know it exists for the Cube. So perhaps in my area all the hardcore gamers went to EB or Best Buy but neglected to go to Wal-Mart. Or maybe Wal-Mart had just put them out since the last time I was there was on Wednesday and they didn't have any copies.
