All I want is some SOLID information on one of my most anticipated Ds games.  FFCCROF. . . .

Just look at how beautiful it is for a ds game. . . .

Square really knows how to push the limits of the system they are working on.  This and Chocobo's magic storybook look like 2 of the most beautiful ds  games coming out in the near future.

I am playing it right now and I am loving it.  It has a very old school feel to it and the cel shading is great.  In battle the enemies look so close to their 2d counterparts its scary.  It rivals other games as the best cel shading in a game yet.

DQ8 is long, has great grafix and a pretty good story. I really miss the turn based RPGs with the characters standing in a row and and not moving all over the battlefield. Although FFXII is pretty sweet.  I'm a little concerned about DQ Swords. It looks like it could be absolutely retarded.  I really hope it's good but I don't have high hopes.

Ah DQ8...great if for JEssica alone. But it has more than that! Love the music, lvoe the story, love the graphics, love the tried and true gameplay that just feels good and right in DQ8. Easily my pick for 2nd best RPG of 2005. (Apparently some forget that fire Emblem: Path of Radience came out the same year. That, of course, isntantly becoming the ebs tRPG on the freaking GameCube...my love of Tales of Symphonia, Skies, and Baten be damned!)

But maybe it should have been.
Think about it.  Look at Japanese sales figures.

The week of November 27th to December 3rd
    1  PS2
    2  Wii
    3  Wii
    4  Wii
    5  GBA
    6  PS2
    7  DS
    8  DS
    9  Wii
    10 DS
    11 DS
    12 DS
    13 DS
    14 DS
    15 DS
    16 PS2
    17 DS
    18 PS2
    19 PSP
    20 PS2
    21 Wii
    22 DS
    23 DS
    24 PS2
    25 DS
    26 DS
    27 DS
    28 Wii
    29 DS
    30 PS2

Half of the top 30 games are DS games.  Granted there are a lot of Wii games on that list, but remember that was the Wii's launch week.  I think there is a real chance this is the start of some new trend where major IPs don't just do side games on handhelds.

But DQ isn't as popular worldwide as FF.  I wonder why DQ is so big in Japan, sometimes even more popular than FF!  Slimes > Chocobos?

I would say that is because when DQ came out in America, are little minds didn't catch on to that style of play until much later and by then it was Final Fantasy that was being delivered to us.  Japan on the other hand I believe got DQ first and fell in love with it from the start.

I can't wait to get my RPG fix, Children of Mana, FFIII, FF: Crystal Chronicles, Tales of the Tempest, and now DQ!

Oh and Thanks for the Screenshots Darkheart, i just drooled all over my keyboard

Edit: fixed Italics, and added thanks to Darkheart!

We had that long drought of Dragon Warrior (as they series was called in the US until Dragon Quest VIII).  We got Dragon Warrior (I-IV) on the NES, and Final Fantasy.  However, Enix of America closed and as such did not bring later Dragon Warrior (V, VI, VII) games to the US, where as SquareSoft (except III) brought Final Fantasy over.  As such the series never had a continuous cache in the US.  Final Fantasy became THE STANDARD.

In Europe only Dragon Quest VIII and Dragon Warrior Monsters have been released, so the brand had very little recognition.

Crimm... Dragon Warrior VII came out in the US.  I think you missed that.

It didn't sell because it was VERY old school.

This proves my theory that they might re-release the missing DQ games through the VC or as remakes or re-releases.

I think some people are severely underestimating how this piece of news will affect Nintendo, the DS and the Wii. I see nothing but great things for Nintendo.

sold me for being dumb and kind of trying to derail this topic -- not intentional -- I didn't want to start a new topic for a rumor that involves SE.

but i read somewhere that SE may have an  of Mana MMO in the mix for Wii, and I think the site said it got its info from Famitsu.  Whether any of this is true, I don't know.

I mean this can't be true, or I died and went to heaven....

This is great news for the DS, but I feel a tad disappointed.  I was looking for a Wii dragon quest to help it sell like mad in japan (even more so).
Wii Number: 1080 3358 2033 2880
FF3 Number: 2620 7985 5351
