So clearly there are too many hoops to jump through for the PSP. But when the PS3 can play these downloaded games (is it true that they're limiting it to one disc games? *gasp* there goe the RPGs!), then it has a potential to be a HUGE spoiler for Nintendo.

The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

Have you done the math?  On top of the Wii and a classic controller, you'd have to buy more than 40 N64 games on the VC to catch up to just the price of the cheaper PS3 and a PSP.

In terms of Sony spoiling Nintendo, let's not forget Nintendo's target audience here.  My dad has -100 interest in playing Final Fantasy VII or Metal Gear Solid.  They're too complicated and they have way too much boring storyline for him.  He has at least 1 or 2 interest in playing Dr. Mario or Pac Man, though.

So one of Nintendo's advantages is in what the old 2D games represent to lapsed gamers and gamers like me who grew up on those old systems.  People who didn't like 3D games or who lost interest because Super Nintendo had "too many buttons" don't care about Playstation.

Besides that, Nintendo has a big lead in this whole thing - you've got five different consoles on one system, and of course Nintendo itself has ten extra years of great games compared to Sony.  Once Sony adds Genesis or TurboGrafx to its downloads, then we'll talk.
That's my opinion, not yours.

I just did the math.

If you plan on purchasing 158 games from that generation it would be cheaper to purchase a PS3, PSP and a memory stick.  If you plan on purchasing less than 158 games it's cheaper to purchase a Wii and a classic controller.

PSOne:  $600 PS3 + $200 PSP + $100 two gig memory stick + 158 PSOne games @ $6 each = $1,848
N64:  $250 Wii + $20 classic controller + 158 N64 games @ $10 each = $1,850
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Who is planning on buying 158 classic games for the Wii?

Plus wait, the prices may drop on Virtual Console games later.

what do you do if the game you downloaded to play on psp uses all the space on the memory card?  How do you save your progress then?

yeah, i think you need to rework those numbers, as i assume you might want to save some of those games instead of purging them from your gig pack. That should be 184 games, 1 PS3, 1 PSP, 50 Gig Packs...

I like to point out that is not 158 Games in general.  Its 158 N64 games... Isn't there only 1 right now?

Edit:

or 316 NES Games
or ~198 SNES Games
or ~263 Turbograpix Games(There 600 points right)
or I can't remember the points for Genesis
