Author Topic: Why isn´t anybody discussing Banjo-Kazooie 3? (Read 13528 times)

I just checked the last 100 topics in this Forum, and nowhere did I see any members discussing the new Banjo-Kazooie 3 game coming for XBOX360! Apparently, and without my knowledge, this game was announced several months ago. Hasn´t anybody noticed?

There is a really cool video, showing for the first time what Banjo and Kazooie looks like at a much higher resolution, and with thus a lot more detail on the characters. Truly, this is going to be awesome when it comes out! Way to go Rare/Microsoft!

We do have a thread were we discussed it though I forget which one it was. To summarize. Most hate the new druggy look and feel that Rare couldn' t develope themselves out of a wet paper bag lately.

I personally don't mind the look and I can see why they went with a more puppet feel.

I think I might like it. After all, I enjoyed Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, and even the GBA game Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge.

But I don't currently own an Xbox 360 and this game, if exclusive to it, and if good, is still not enough to convince me to get one. (I have a decent PC so the only actually exclusive Xbox 360 game that I'm interested in so far is Dead Rising, which as far as I know isn't coming to the PC.) The people that I do know that have or might have an Xbox 360, well, this isn't their kind of game.

I have ignored it because:

- I have no plans to buy a 360
- Virtually all of Rare's post-Nintendo offerings have sucked mightily or been mediocre at best (Grabbed By The Ghoulies, Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo, etc)
- I loved B-K, but wasn't quite as charmed with B-T and was very unimpressed with how they handled the whole "Stop 'n Swop" fiasco (B-K fans will know what I'm talking about)
- I don't like the new art style

Of course, I'll be interested in seeing what kind of reviews it gets when it comes out a few decades from now on the Xbox 720, but for now I'm OK with giving bear and bird the cold shoulder.

I hate Banjo Kazooie and will never play another one of those damn games again. I was playing Gruntys Revenge and kept trying to do that catch the sheep thing and got so fruystrated I splammed my Ds down onto the coffe table and cracked my screen. so I will nevr play one of thier stupid games ever again.

We did talk about this, it was in one of the Xbox Event topics. It was pretty much everyone hated it.

Rare makes Sub-Par games at best. If you think Banjo-Kazooie 3 is going to be even half of what Banjo-Kazooie was to you, you are going to be in for one rude wakeup call.

I was never a big fan of rare when they were part of Nintendo sure Goldeneye and Perfect Dark were decent FPS on a console and Conker was fun to go through once, but outside that I have never really cared for any of Rare's games. And every game they have made for the Xbox and Xbox360 have been really bad. heck even the Conker remake was awful.

The Rare you knew and loved is long dead, all MS has is the rotting corps.
Do yourself a favior and move on.

BK1 was fun without the collecting being a hassle.

BK2 got tiring with all of the damn collecting.

DK64 cemented the fact that Rare has a serious hardon for collectathons.

BK3 will somehow devise a way to see to it that players never stop collecting.

Online collecting. Instead of increasing the level caps like WoW, they'll add more collectibles.

However, DK64 came out before BK2, and Conker's Bad Fur Day had just about the least collecting I've seen in a platformer since Super Mario 64. The thing is that during the N64/PSX era, "collecting" wasn't a dirty word. I don't think the collecting hate really became mainstream until after DK64 came out. That game was the camel that broke the collector's back.

Personally I don't even mind collecting as long as it's not a huge percentage of my play time. It took me almost 20 hours to figure out where eveything was in Super Mario Sunshine, and I even resorted to a Player's Guide.

One thing Rare probably failed to notice about Super Mario 64 is that in reality it didn't have collecting. Stars were just the marker for the end of an objective. It wasn't about finding stars, it was about completing objectives. To progess to later levels you needed to have done a certain amount of objectives. Stars were just an easy way for the player to see their progress and thus know how much more they had to do to get further in the game. Yeah you had to collect coins for some stars but coins in themselves had a practical purpose. They gave you health. They did something.

In Rare games the piddle and crap you get often does NOTHING. Notes in Banjo-Kazooie do nothing at all. They're just some arbitrary item you have to collect in order to proceed. DK64 look it to ridiculous extremes by making you collect useless crap with five different characters. I think Rare got into this collecting mode with DKC2. In DKC there are tons of secrets and they contain useful rewards like free lives and bananas that like Mario coins give you free lives for every hundred. In DKC2 secrets were just used to get further in the lost world. You were rewarded with Krem Coins to spend to access secret levels. That wasn't as fun. It made the secrets feel more mandatory. They became work. In DKC secrets were optional and helped you on your quest. You could access the entire game without finding ANY of them. They only contributed to your final percentage.

I like Rare but if they made Metroid missiles would do nothing but unlock areas. Items in games should be real sh!t that does something useful.

Well I cant say I never liked RARE but I liked the games most peopel hate and hate the games most people like. My favortie RARE games are a Nightmare on elm Street for NES and Star Fox Adventures for GC (still my all time favorite GC game)

I have DKC but never get very far cuz it always gets boring. I *did however like Kameo and my nephew loves it (it was his first 360 game got it on launch day) but most people hate it too.

Hearing you guys talk about games like DKC and BK really makes me miss the old Rare ; ; MS can have em now though, they just aren't the same company anymore. Though Viva Pinata does seem interesting...

Well, in all fairness to Rare, you don't have to collect everything in BK or DK64 either. I don't remember the details, but I think you can beat DK64 without collecting a single (non-gold) banana.

Ian's point is true. Nintendo's collectibles are usually more useful. I think there are a whole slew of issues with collecting in video games, starting with the volume of collecting. Making things useful or rewarding is important. Pikmin 2 is heavy on collecting but I never found it boring because the items and their descriptions were a reward in and of themselves. I also think Super Mario 64 had the right idea on collecting in that it gave you a larger supply than you needed to reach the goal. You can shoot for the high score on gold coins per level if you like, but you don't need every last one to get the star. That was an issue for JFG - having to collect every last Tribal to beat the game kind of sucked, though I loved the game otherwise.

Yep, games demanding collectibles to be found should ALWAYS have more than you need so if you really can't find or reach one of them you can get other ones instead. No fun being stuck because there's one item you can't get.

I agree to that. Stupid gamedesign is something which has parted me from many games before - quickly!

Well, we will just have to wait and see if once-mighty RARE can finally get it right with Banjo-Kazooie 3. I sincirely hope they can, since I will soon buy an XBOX360 with the upcoming HALO 3. And I would of course love to add a number of other superb titles to my games library - apart from the already godlike HALO 3!

I always loved the beautifull, lush worlds with sweet music that BK offered, and so I have very high expectations for the 3. game in that series. I think that nomatter how disgruntled fans of BK ever has been, they will always love to see what the next game in the series has to offer. So sharpen up, RARE! We are a lot of people who would like to see the BK universe again and set in completely new, exciting, bigger and better surroundings. And this time with USEFULL purposes......behind ITEM-collecting, mind!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gamebasher, when you get your X360 will you get Viva Pinata and Kameo? I've heard that these games are vastly underrated and criminally overlooked by most gamers despite having significant redeeming features to them.
