I'm not a staffer, though I probably wouldn't turn down a job were it offered to me

I just decided to get back into a forum type thing after taking a break for a while. I guess by today's showing I jumped in with two feet a bit too quickly. I used to frequent GFaqs (I checked today, I've been a member there for a little over 5 years and in that time I amassed 1330 karma, which means in those 5 years there were 1330 days in which I posted at least once), but I grew tired of the stupidity and insanity (some insanity is good, but the level there was off the charts). I've been a bit of a lurker here for a while; I have the site as one of my home page tabs and rely on it for news, and I have occasionally posted in talkback. From what I've observed the level of insanity is (usually) within accepatble ranges and the overall intelligence of the users is exponentially greater (even you, Mashiro ). I hope to remain active here, I like the way this site is and the people seem great (though nearly any random group of humans is better company than the GFaqs crowd). Hopefully I won't be quite as controversial in the future, at least not on too regular a basis, and I hope I haven't made too bad of a first impression. I guess I'll see you all around the fora.

EDIT PS: It is now Friday (at least on the East Coast) and still no VC Mondays.

If by "is it any good?" you mean "are they the best games ever?" the answer is yes.

It has grid battles like Fire Emblem but remains very different.  You lose a battle when your main character dies and if you lose other characters in battle they can be revived afterwards for a price depending on their level.  Unlike the game gear Shining Force and Fire Emblem the game isn't all battles, you explore towns and talk to people as well as travel on a world map and places where you just talked to people can become the next battleground.  There are secret characters and items to find in town and on the world map.  Unlike Fire Emblem there are many, many different classes of characters with promotions (knights, mage, wolfman, dragon, birdman, steam knight, jogurt are a few) so it isn't so boring because few characters are carbon copies of other characters and almost none are copies of enemies.  I also like the fantasy setting far better then the Fire Emblem setting as well.

I would love for Saturn vc games on Wii just for Shining Force 3.  My computer isn't fast enough to run the emulator well so I haven't been able to play these games or the japanese only ones unless I decide to spend a ridiculous amount of money as well as have a Saturn clutter up the area.

It can't be the best VC Monday ever without Lolo!

The Best Month of Virtual Console releases would include:

NES:
TMNT: The Arcade Game
Lolo
Super Mario Bros. 3

SNES:
Super Metroid
Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Super Mario Kart

Turbo Graphics 16:
Bonk 3
Bomberman '95

Nintendo 64:
Super Smash Bros
Wave Race 64
Orge Battle 64

Sega Genesis:
Sonic the Hedgehog 3

Ok, this would actually be the best 2 months of releases...but still.

There are so many millions of third party N64 games that need releasing it's not even funny. It's so not funny it's like watching an Adam Sandler film.

Buck Bumble, Legend of the Mystical Ninja 1 and 2, Rayman 3, The New Tetris, Turok 1 and 2, Beetle Adventure Racing, Body Harvest (!), Castlevania (!!!), Quake II, Forsaken, Harvest Moon 64, Hybrid Heaven, Mischief Makers (!!!), Mission Impossible (was actually good), Space Station Silicon Valley (was amazing), Shadows of the Empire, Rogue Squadron, Episode I Racer, Wetrix (!!!), and Winback. And not to mention the RareWare stuff that could be coming (DK64, Goldeneye). So far we've gotten less than one N64 game a month, and all of them have been first party! Guess what? My favorite N64 games aren't first party. THESE are my favorite N64 games.

The best month of VC releases would have any SquareEnix title from the old days, and any one of these beautiful N64 games. (And my all-time favorite game ever, Harvest Moon for SNES, but that's not happening). Stupid Nintendo and their piecemeal sonofabitch plan for making me wait.

There are too many N64 racing games on the VC right now with Mario Kart, F-Zero, and soon to be Wave Race (yes, they're all great, but how about some variety?) but it would be soooo awesome if they released Star Wars Episode I Racer (hands down the best thing to come out of the prequels, including the movies), and definitely Shadows of the Empire and Rogue Squadron, too. I would love Harvest Moon (64 or the SNES original) but it's way too niche to come to the VC, at least any time soon.

PS: I agree with the Adam Sandler remark for his recent stuff, but are you seriously going to sit here and say that Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore weren't funny (stupid, yes, but that doesn't necessarily mean it can't be funny)?

I was having problems thinking of Genesis games that HAVE to come soon.  How sad is that?  I guess we can play the horrible Eternal Champions if you want.

Well on the Genesis side we need Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, Vectorman 1 & 2, and Phantasy Stars II, III, and IV, off the top of my head.

How big would said can of worms be? Should I be taking precautions such as arming myself or hoarding canned goods for the ensuing apocalypse?

Really, how is that statement controversial? Would you say that it is impossible for something to be funny if it were stupid? If so I would like to know what you find funny, as at least some level of stupidity in some form or another is present in nearly all comedy.

Remember, I spent 5 years in the wilds of GameFAQs, if I can handle myself there, I can manage this.

Also, for the VC, I want Mario Tennis on the N64, the GC one was ruined by power shots (and the GBA version, I recently pulled out the GBC version and realized just how fantastic it was, probably my favorite pre-GBA Game Boy game (unless you count Tetris, which I don't, since it's appeared on every platform ever). And how did we ever miss Yoshi's Island on the SNES, the greatest platformer on the SNES and 2nd best of the 16 bit era (Sonic 2).

Yoshi's Island was defenitely the greatest platform game on the SNES . . .  but below Sonic 2? Sorry I have to disagree.

Either way, yes YI will be another must purchase on the VC.

I guess gameplay to gameplay Yoshi's Island is probably better, but I'm probably letting the amazing music of Sonic 2 put it higher (inferior sound hardware my ass, Sonic 2 was the best game soundtrack ever, and Casino Night Zone is top 3 all time game songs (Tecmo Bowl main theme and Zelda overworld are the others, which means I've got all three on the VC)) Maybe it was the Blast Processing, it must have been that...

And we need Mario Party 3 on the VC, I demand the return of duel mode! Also, some of the Genesis Disney games, like Aladdin and The Lion King (and maybe Toy Story). They probably won't be anywhere near as good as they seemed back then, though (but I pulled out Lion King and played it a couple years ago and it was pretty good, and Aladdin keeps popping up on "best licensed games" lists). And, why the hell not, Hey You, Pikachu! with DS connectivity for the Microphone.

Nope, actually they are made by different people. Capcom was the team in charge of the SNES Aladdin game and Virgin Interactive was responsible for the Sega game. They were two different games =).

That's pretty surprising, I mean, a kids movie licensed game and they do completely different games for systems that were pretty much functionally identical. Someone with an axe to grind about the perceived decline in game quality over the years would make a huge deal about that. I had the Genesis Aladdin and it was pretty good, and damn near impossible in the later levels.

Aladdin for the SNES and Genesis were different as they were both made by 2 different companies, however The Lion King were essentially the same game on the Genesis and the SNES.

I personally liked the Genesis version better, mostly because I didn't like the weird flipping and such you could do on the SNES.
