Can anyone here make Miis correctly?
« on: November 26, 2006, 07:03:27 PM »
I keep trying and trying, and I can never make my Miis look proper. There are so many different options such as exaggerated, making things really big, or making things too small, or making cartoony kiddy faces, or what I'm trying to do, make everything look realistic. The first step is to make a lot of the stuff smaller, that's #1, but then how can I do it properly?

Like, I need instruction on which kinds of heads go for which kinds of faces, which eyes, and so forth. Anyone wanna start posting their opinions? Actually, I don't want this to turn into a flame war, so if you really know, "this one is for big chins and this is for fat people, this one is for kids" then start posting THOSE opinions. If you really have no clue, don't bother.

Feel free to add your little tidbits and such in there like, I don't agree or something or "what if" stuff.

I'm really lookin' to make my Miis look like actual people. If we generate a good list, we might actually be able to put a face to each and every eye, hair, noes, and the like so then making Miis is a lot easier and a lot more fun where you don't spend 2 hours trying to get it just right and realize then that you have to go back and change 10 other Miis you made incorrectly. I mean, all the Miis should look remotely the same in the aspect or size and proportion.

Btw, on the height and size scales, anyone wanna put in measurements? I would say the tallest should be 6'4" and the smallest something like 3'. Remember, you have to account for kids and younger people to also be joining. I know some people that are over 6'4", but on the scale on Wii, I think 6'4" actually looks like the tallest Mii figure.

A good understanding of carictature and cartooning will help in making a Mii. It's not designed for a perfect representation of a person. Basically, it's doing a portrait and stripping their face down to the basic elements then exaggerating them.

My Mii of myself looks a lot like me. The one I made of my little brother is almost identical.

I've found that Miis are fun to make but the options are fairly limited. Sometimes it seems like none of the available mouths, noses, head shapes etc. seem to fit the person I am trying to make. I'm hoping some updates are provided eventually by Nintendo for more options... in the meantime, what I try to do is focus on the most prominent/defining aspect of that person's face and over-exaggerate it. It's actually pretty tough to figure out what that may be, especially if you've known the person for a long time and never really thought about what precise facial features it is that allows you to recognize that person. Creating Miis that look like their namesake is very subjective too, so I don't know if anyone could ever really create a step-by-step process or guide for it...

I find starting out with a look-alike is a good way to get going.  If you can find a half-decent look-alike, then all you really need to do is swap one or two features and change sizes/postion.

If you have a photo or something that might help you pick better bits and pieces.  I have trouble picking good eye shapes.  Most other parts are easy for me.

I keep thinking to myself that I REALLY want an option to change the size of the head. (But I'm trying to make the most usual looking unusual Mii.  My friends watch your parade for the fruits of that labor.)

Ceric, are you the guy who made Mrs. Hopper? That grasshopper thing? It freaks me out.

And I want to know who keeps making the evil dictator Miis. Saddam and Hitler have both shown up in my parade, and Saddam was bowling next to me yesterday lol

Back on topic, for a starting point, I think there's something to be said for making sure your eyes are in the right spot on the head. In general, peoples' eyes tend to be right in the middle, between top and bottom I mean. Also, take a good look at your eyes in a mirror. What shape are they? Are they squinty? Wide? Large? Beady? Find the basic shape for your eyes, then adjust the size and rotation from there. This rule can be applied for the other parts as well.

OK, somebody needs to send me Saddam and Mr. Garrison...and the Grasshopper thing you're talking about. I found Hulk Hogan, Katie Holmes and Prince in my Mii parade, and someone sent me Harry Potter.

Haha, I made Harry Potter I couldn't get the lightning scar, but the rest is pretty accurate, down to the Gryffindor Green.

I think ShaolinKilla made the Mr. Garrison one, though I could be wrong. Miis are fun!

Maybe we should have like a "make a Mii for me" thread.  Post a photo, get a Mii!

Oh, I see now that the original poster was worried about scaling people correctly and whatnot...me, I'm not that worried about that.  I'd rather be playing Zelda than making sure my Miis are all to scale.  I took mid-size to be something like 5'6" and went from there.

Well I spend quite a bit of time in the Mii channel because it's just fun. It's just me, but that's a feature of Wii I've taken highly to. So 5'6" I thought 5'6" is like 3/4 of the way.

My sister keeps marvelling over how much my Mii looks like me.  I'll post it sometime, when I get the chance, and a picture for comparison.  It really does, it's uncanny.

My Mii is currently my icon. It was done by SB and its surprisingly accurate. The best of all is that he was able to do it from memory, meaning he didn't use a picture for reference.

I made a bad-ass Quentin Tarantino Mii. His mouth is always open, which I feel is rather realistic.

my Mii doesnt look like me at all, I alwasy wear a hat and my face is hard to get right. but At elast my facial esxpressions are sorta accurate. the only one that looks so much like his Mii is my dad, everyone sees it and is like "dude its Harley" even mom thought it looked just like him.

I don't think it's too hard as long as you have a picture beside you and just take your time and do it one step at a time

I recommend doing hair last in case in flops down over the face

Funny thing is, I can do real people real well, it's cartoons and stuff I can't do.....I tried to do South Park kids......They sucked

Ive been having too much fun creating miis lately.  Afterwards of creating all my friends and family I started goin down the typical route of creating movie stars and what not.  Heres a little list of who I have done.

-----------------------------------------

jesus
michael jackson
peter jackson (the director)
mr. rogers
harry potter
snape
hansel
gretel
tarutaru (from ffxi)
---------------------------------------------------------
Then making stars sort of got boring and i started taking artistic merit to fool around with the system.  Now I am creating weird freaks~!

Freakachu (this weird freaky guy with pikachus face and demon horns coming from his head)
Upside down man (this guys head is upside down but ontop of a normal mii body. . . .

I play around with the Mii channel about twice a week and will be adding more miis to my collection as it grows.  If anyone is interested in any of these check out my code in the forum and hit me up with a pm and ill add you .

I still want to make my Julia child .

I spend far too much time creating Miis.  James Hetfield (1989 version), Jonathan Davis, George Costanza and all of my friends...I'm just loving it.  Bill sent me a Goomba dude who looks accurate.  And I fouind Pam Beesly and Harry Potter in the parade.

I think the eyes are the most important features to perfect.  Eyes and getting the mouth similar has been key for me.
