Constant notification pop-ups from WiiConnect24
« on: November 25, 2006, 07:20:41 AM »
Hello... my name's Chelsea and this is my first post here. I'm having a somewhat technical issue and hope I'm posting in the right place. I took a look around and didn't see any existing threads on this subject but I apologize if I missed one.

Anyway, here's my problem. I've been using a Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector (a.k.a. the official dongle) ever since Mario Kart DS came out. I never had any problems with constant pop-ups while I was connected to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. However, I have also configured my Wii to use the dongle, and have enabled the WiiConnect24 service. As a result, I am getting constant pop-ups in my system tray from the Nintendo Wi-Fi Registration Tool, reading:

Quote

"A user is connected to the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector."

When I get this message while connecting to WFC to play a DS game like Mario Kart DS, I only get the message once and then it goes away. But it just keeps coming with the Wii. I click on it and it goes away, and then it comes back a few seconds later. The only solution I've found to stop this from happening is to disable WiiConnect24, but I don't want to have to do that every time I'm using my computer.

So I guess my questions would be:

1. Is this happening to anyone else?
2. If so, have you found a solution to the problem that allows you to keep WiiConnect24 going?

I still love my Wii so far; this is just a small nuisance I've come across since I picked mine up on launch day and would be very glad to get this resolved. Maybe I'm just missing something obvious, I hope...?

Thanks in advance for any replies

I just double-click the Nintendo Wi-Fi icon on the system tray and leave the window open, you can't minimize it but at least it doesn't overlap any other window you are using.

Thanks for your suggestion.. I'll do that until I can find a more permanent solution, assuming one exists. Thank you

You can right click on the Windows taskbar, and choose properties, then hit the customize button. Go to the Nintendo WiFi icon and choose "always hide". That should fix your problem, accept you'll need to reverse this action if you want to access the WiFi program by using the system tray icon. Using the Start Menu should work when the icon is disabled (as well as when it's enabled).

No problem. This works for any system tray icon that gives you annoying pop-ups (or any icon at all, really), like if you have XP MCE you can hide the extended resources monitor, which is very annoying.
