My poor Broken Wii (SD Card and Shopping Channel)
« on: November 20, 2006, 05:31:42 PM »
Here we go.

To make a long story short, I'll expand it later, my Wii has a rare error that won't let it get on the shopping channel and Nintendo is sending my a replacement console that should work properly.

Now to the real meat of this.  It seems that I can't get my fully updated Wii to recognize my SD Card.  This is bad considering that I'm going to be getting a new console soon and I don't have the sort of time to put into Rayman and TP to redo everything I already did.  So my question is has any successfully copied a save to there SD Card yet?

I also can't get the Photo Channel to work.  It always say my card is corrupt and needs formatting.  I can only format it in Fat and Fat32 and I've tried both and the Wii doesn't give you the option to format the card.

Any help or comments would be appreciated.

A firmware update is required to back game data up on your SD card.  If you can't connect online, then you are kind of screwed there.  As for the photo channel, it should work.  I'm clueless there.

Welp I got my Replacement Wii in.  I hooked it up.  Got a compatibile SD card.  Copy my saved on the old Wii to the SD Card.  Then hooked up the new Wii again and tried to transfer them.  No dice.

First it was because I hadn't Played the game yet.  Fixed that Problem.  Then I go to transfer the saves again.  It acts like it's transferring the saves and then states that no data was copied.
Ok... So I try copying the saves again to me SD card and then deleting the save from it and trying to transfer it back from the fresh copy on the SD Card.  No dice.  It didn't work...

HEEEAALP!!!!  I don't want to lose my 24 hrs worth of saves.

Edit:  I just read somewhere that the save games might not be transferble at all...

seems like savegames are tied to the consoles they were made on....so you can't transfer them (doesn't make any sense to me...)

try calling Nintendo maybe?

I had a friend copy his saves and then move them. The only way to copy the saves is to use the only firmware update available for Wii, and you have to connect to the internet to do so. Actually, that's the only patch Nintendo made so far.

There is an unknown number of Wiis that have had that problem of them failing to update. I don't think it's a Wii problem as much as probably something people are doing wrong or them having cheaply made routers as is the problem w/ most wireless connections.

Ok, update time.  Nintendo and I were on the phone yesterday.  Both of the Wiis are at the newest firmware patch and it doesn't work.  They offered to send my yet another replacement Wii but I told them I'll just wait till the next firmware update and if it doesn't work after that then I'll have them send a new one to me.  I got all the way up to a supervisor.

Everything would work fine till I want to copy the data to the internal Memory and it then say it was copying and then go, "The data was not copied."  Since two Wiis in a row it didn't work on I figure it's firmware.  Moreover since Nintendo didn't even know how to fix it I'm going with Firmware as well.
