So I decided to wait on getting a Wii
« on: November 18, 2006, 01:09:59 PM »
As of 6 PM all of the stores doing midnight launches were overbooked.  As of 7 PM the Wal-Mart that opened at 7 the next morning had 24 people lined up to wait for 30 consoles.

I'd rather wait a few months than spend 12 hours in the freezing november cold for the console.

So glad I got a preorder.  Cant say I blame you, If aquiring a wii meant waiting all night in the cold, I might wait too.

Good man!

... and you'll probably get a console that has more functionality too. Wait a month or two and you'll get the News and Weather channels instead of waiting for them like launch buyers, a bigger virtual console library, more comprehensive reviews to help you choose games, a higher probability you can find extra wiimotes for sale, AND MUCH LESS STRESS.

I'm gonna be pissed if I can't get a Wii tonight. There's 3 Wal-Marts....no 4 Wal-Marts within 20 minutes of my house...so maybe.

I've preordered but I'd wait out all night for a Wii. I've done it before for Pearl Jam tickets and it was well worth it.

Even if wii sells out day one, there will likely be plenty of units coming in the next week or so.

I wouldn't think a few months wait would be needed, unless you just want to wait for a few more games to be available.

Yeah me and u are in the same boat, checked around and it's virtually sold out everywhere, wasn't expecting this kinda of reaction esp since Nintendo shipped so many units.

There ought to be an official "sold out thread." Can you guys post what areas you found are sold out?

I may get screwed out of a Wii. I think the PS3 campers just moved over to getting a Wii to sell on eBay. I wish I would have preordered

Melbourne, FL looks to be pretty sold out. Wii launch will absolutely crush the PS3's global launch.

It looks pretty sold out here to.  I just went to Walmart after work and there was about 40 people ahead of me for the 26 units they had.  I have to work tomorrow morning too so unless one of the stores next to me somehow has still has a unit left for me to walk in and grab at opening I will go without.

Now the important question is, when is the next shipment?

I think the title should change to "So I can't get a Wii."

Well, I *could've* gotten a Wii.  I'd just be sitting out in the cold with 7 hours more waiting to do...

Walmart next to me has 60.  They are drawing names at 12:15.  I got my ticket earlier in the day for the drawing.  I'd guess I might have a 1 in 4 chance.  We'll see.  Otherwise I have crapload of stores within 20 minutes of me.  I expect I'll be able to find one tomorrow morning.

I was at Walmart for the ridiculous raffle tonight.  500 people, 36 Wiis.  I guess you know what happened.  I drove by Best Buy and Circuit City, both of which sported lines about 50 deep.

I'll wait until next week I guess.  But I have to say we might see some huge numbers for Nintendo.  I'm talking historic.  I can't remember when a company released a console in this high of numbers and they sold out like this.

Nada thing here, for me.  Went to Wal-Mart at 11:30 and there were over 30 people there and only 28 to go around.  Only about a fistful of Zelda copies as well.  Tomorrow at Target/Best Buy it is.

You know, I thought Pale and others were saying you could walk right in and get the Wii on launch day. Looking more and more that I, and Smash were right about beng safe than sorry with preorders. BTW my local walmart had 90 Wiis (yes 90 I was absoltely shocked) but they were all taken within 2 hrs of the midnight sale. Looks like Nintendo has struck gold if the Fred Meyer launch was any indication.

I waited for 7 hours (the system basically sold out 6 hours before midnight) and it was worth every second...

You know what I noticed since I experienced both the PS3 and Wii lines, the Wii people seemed genuinely EXCITED to play it while I got the impression that most of the PS3 people really did not care that much. There was definately a more "hardcore" gamer crowd waiting for the Wii, and I had some great talks with people around me who loved NIntendo.

Eh? From the sounds of it, the guy just isn't getting one because it's sold out everywhere - he'll pick it up in a few weeks when more are in stock. Also, for all the stuff you listed, we all have to wait for it. Whether you own a console or not, you'll be getting, say, the News channel whenever it comes out. It's not like you have to pay for it if you bought the console at launch. The only difference is that, during the time you wait, you'll be able to play with your Wii if you get it earlier.

Also, I'd like to commend the people who preordered. In the podcast, from what I heard, nearly everyone went so far as to mock VGRevolution and Smash_Brother, which I thought was quite unwarranted. Now look who has the last laugh..

Well I do understand where Pale and the others were coming from, but it looks more and more that the demand is way outpacing the supply. I think the most important fact is that most of the people who got a Wii are probaly keeping it or giving it as a gift, not selling it on ebay unlike PS3.

I didn't preorder and I never had to in the past.  That includes the Snes, the N64 and the GC.  I'm amazed at the turn out for the Wii.  Can't wait to see the numbers...while I wait for who knows how long to get mine.
