Wii Games at Retail
« on: November 13, 2006, 06:44:58 PM »
I just wanted to post that I spotted Happy Feet for the Wii at Walmart today out here in Rochester, NY. Anybody else spot Wii games at a store? I am hoping to buy all of my games and accessories before Sunday.

Let's P P R!

Now that SB has brought it up...Since Konami sued In the groove because the gameplay was just too similar, would Konami be facing the same problem as ITG because the dancing gameplay is exactly like DDR?

I went to EBgames last week to see about preordering Zelda, which was of naturally impossible. They did, however, give me a list of games they had still available for preorder, among them being Excite Truck. Excite truck had a listed shipment date of 11/14, with some third party titles having dates slightly earlier and others much later.
The point of this post is that stores are most likely recieving their shipments of Nintendo published titles TODAY, the 14th. Stores like FYE, who are not taking preorders for anything other than Wii systems, may have some big titles in stock now and available for purchase with some slight prodding.
I'll edit my post with results after checking my local store.

As part of the Canadian minority I'd be happy to hear if anyone spots any Wii accessories up here.

I preordered a Wii and Zelda at EBGames a while back, but I (or rather, my awesome mom) wasn't able to get a second Nunchuk or component cables reserved.  If I'm to play crisp Wii Sports: Boxing with my brother on launch day, I'd like to secure those last two items somewhere this week.

Component Cables are the only thing I'm on the hunt for right this moment.  I have RRR & TP pre-orderred w/ my Wii.

So you are all aware, a message from corporate was handed down to us employees regarding the sales of Wii items. The following things are NOT to be sold until the 11/19 street date:
Wii system
Zelda
Excite truck
Wii Remotes
Wii Nunchuks
Wii Classic Controllers
VC Point Cards

Everything that is released by the big N itself essentially, which is no big suprise. Everything else however, (your Trauma Centers, Red Steels, Metal Slugs, Monkey Balls, Spongebobs, Happy Feet, etc) is fair game.

This is specifically EB/GameStop, but I am sure they didnt make this descision on their own. Assume Nintendo has given the same orders to all retailers.
Do, or do not. There is no try.

OverHeat, i believe this goes against something that was released earlier (by Wal-Mart I believe) that said the only hard street date from Nintendo was on the system itself.  This could be a gamestop specific thing as they want to make sure that people who are picking up the system get accessories too or something.

I just went to Game Stop and bought Red Steel, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz and Trauma Center: Second Opinion. Now if only I had a Wii. Hmm...

The manager at Game Stop told me that he has his reserved Wii units in the back room and if I had secured a console pre-order, he would have also given me my Wii today. If anyone here was lucky enough to pre-order from Game Stop/EB Games - this could be good news for you, unless it was just this particular store's manager.

I GOT RED STEEL!!!! WOOHOO!!!! Check it out here, here, and here.

I picked it up at EBGames, they also had pretty much every 3rd party game coming out for the Wii. All the 1st party games were "street dated" to come out with the Wii. Walmart said they would have stock early so I'll be picking up my extra controller, nunchuck, Excite Truck and Zelda over there before launch.

The Game Stop also had Zelda and the manager would have sold it to me had I wanted it.

*gasp*

I'm still waiting for definitive pros and cons of the Wii vs GameCube controls

Keep in mind - I wasn't one of the lucky few to secure a pre-order, so I'm S.O.L. anyways.

Can I have your manager call my manager and convince him to sell early?

The actual games are not street dated regardless of if they are first or third party!  It's a gamestop policy to not sell them.

I am pretty sure they are street dated.  I was able to buy Red Steel at Gamestop today but he wouldn't sell me Excite Truck because it was street dated.

The Wal-Mart employee playbook says the only hard date is on the console.  Combine that with the fact that plenty of stores sold GameCube first party games and accessories before launch and ebgames and gamestop would not, and I'm gonna say it's a gamestop policy.

I gotta back Pale up on this one. There is no street date on Zelda, Excite Truck or accessories. You can blame the inability to puchase solely on gamestop/eb. They have been claiming street date, but I think they want to make sure the 2 biggest games are available on Nov. 19 for their reserve customers.

So is this some sort of Nintendo first party only rule that Gamestop does or did they do it for the big games other systems launch with?

I think they just want to save the big name games for launch day. The rest aren't as vital for them to have on that day, because they can just use the poor shipment excuse. For Nintendo games they should have them for launch, no excuses, but if they sell early they may not have them, thus lots of pissed off preorderers.

So I wanted to see if what I was assuming was correct and I got some interesting info.  When talking to Toys-r-us (because they are who I bought my Cube accessories early from) they said they have everything in the back room.  As of now the accessories aren't in the computer and they are not sure if they will be sold early along with games.  He said if it happens it will probably happen on Saturday.  I then asked if I could get a pre order, he laughed and said no.  I asked how many they did and he said 50.  I then asked if they had any more besides those... he said "Oh yeah.  Just come in early on Sunday and you should get one no problem."

Continuing my inquiry, I went over to the Wal Mart I want to buy at.  When I asked the guy back there he said "They're already in the back room.  We got at least 24."

That 24 number seems low to me... especially after what Toys R Us said.  I dunno.

It seems just right to me.  For whatever reason, Walmart is getting shafted in the amount of systems they are getting.  My roommate works there and his Walmart (24 hour) has 21 in stock right now.

Hehe, I'm going to stand in line most of Saturday and then he's going to take over when he gets off work, only he's standing in line for me because I have to be somewhere else and so he's buying a Wii for me.  He's getting one later (or his girlfriend is getting one later).
