Rumored EGM Wii scores
« on: October 27, 2006, 07:57:36 PM »
Twilight Princess (Wii version)9.5/9.5/10

Red Steel 8/8/5

ExciteTruck 7/7/7.5

Well for a magazine that tends to be a bit biased against Nintendo those are some good scores for the Wii's top games (I'm most happy to see Red Steel get that high besides the 5).

Only ONE ten for Zelda TP? Fake.

There's no way they could have (accurately) reviewed Zelda already. I'd hate to be a reviewer and have to rush through games.

That's odd.  I wonder what got under the third reviewer's skin so badly.  I mean, assuming these're real.

I dunno but I have seen that before, forgot which game, but about everyone gave it a 7.5 or 8 (forgot which) and another gave it like a 4 or a 5.

An EGM staffer has said on the forum that it's untrue. Only Monkey Ball and DBZ were reviewed.

Seriously, if Zelda was reviewed it would say "Zelda: TP & Wii Reviews."

Yeah, as far as I know the first playable version of what may be the gold version of TP to be shown to the press should happen early next week.

Where did these rumored scores come from?  I mean, as far as I know IGN got its first Wii dev unit this week.  From what I understand it isn't even theirs!  GameSpot used on on their set on Thursday, and the only reason they had one to demo Metal Slug on is that SNK brought theirs.

I don't know how EGM would be so lucky to get one.

The ol' brown bag of cash usually does the trick.  I really hope any respectible review site doesn't "fake"/"rush" through their game reviews.

Oh and hey anyone remember how Gameinformer reviewed Paper Mario: TYD and gave it like a 6.....I'm not saying they suck at reviewing stuff but hey its what they thought of the game, they didn't follow all the other reviewers and give it an 8 or 9.

Actually i take that back, lol.  They ragged on it for being too text intensive and the story/writing wasn't that funny.

That GI review of Paper Mario was a fiasco. People on the forums were upset about the score and then one of the editors who reviewed the game said it wasn't what he thought of the game, but what he thought the audience would think of the game. And then people were really upset about that and started questioning their journalistic integrity and it was a vicious cycle. The moral here is to not give an average score to what is obviously a good game.

I actually would be terribly thrilled if those EGM scores were real.

What magazine reviewed the Cube Club Eternal Darkness demo a full 7 months before the games release? Was that also GI?

I hate to say this but PGC itself is sort of a black sheep for game rankings.  Everyone will have one score and the staff here will come out with another from there time with the game.

Unfortunately Red Steel, from all of the various "previews" I've read, seems to be shaping up to get mediocre reviews. It's funny, because just about all of these previews talk about how great the game is (in concept) and despite what looks to hint towards poor reviews is still a must-own launch title. I've looking forward to it ever since the EGM cover story just before E3. I hope to be able to snag a Wii pre-order at Toys "R" Us tomorrow morning. Red Steel is one of 4 titles I plan to pick-up on November 19th (along with Trauma Center, Super Monkey Ball and Excite Truck).

I know someone will reply with "What, no Zelda?". With the numerous delays and then the transition over to the Wii, I need to read a few reviews to see which version, Wii or GameCube, controls the best. Once that is determined, then I'll be adding the new Zelda to my list.
PEACE--->Rhoq

I fully expect Red Steel to get review scores from 70% to 85%, and I'd be happy with that.

Seriously, all it has to be is AAA quality ande it will be fine. The wiimote will do the rest.

I think you are right about that prediction, I would say a 72% average on gamerankings with the biggest complaint being that the controls are hard to get used to.

I predict the same. In fact, I see Red Steel being like Geist on the GC; Brilliant ideas and design, slightly flawed execution.

Geist was great. The story was really interesting, the concept was VERY good and it was an unforgettable experience, but the aiming was slightly clunky, sometimes it was hard to get stuff and the difficulty was uneven. But overall, I loved the game.

I expect the same thing with Red Steel on the Wii.

I dunno.. I have a bit more faith. It's true, the aiming system will be different, and reviewers will have to get used to the fact that you have pinpoint precision within the viewable area, but turning is slower. It's quite different than most PC FPSes, but as more time is put into the title, they'll understand it more. I predict a 83% GameRankings score.

I never said that Red Steel was going to turn out EXACTLY like Geist. I haven't played the game (and probably won't till like later in the year) so I don't which flaws the game has.

What I meant to say was that RS could turn out like Geist, a severely underrated game with a loyal fanbase that truly loves it for what it is, not that its going to PLAY like Geist.

I do expect Red Steel to have some flaws that will prevent it from achieving perfect scores, but the game will be a hit nonetheless. It's already one of the most advertised Wii launch titles. So I wouldn't worry too much.

I've heard plenty of good things about RS and they've all been good, and this is from people who understood the controls.

Most complaints were from people who admitted that they had trouble with the controls.

Those definately give me hope, personally I'm not too concerned about the controls but I fear some lazy reviewers won't take the time to get used to them, thus hurting the review scores.

Still, it wouldn't surprise me if those that don't understand the controls end up throwing a big fit and their negative reviews end up being louder than the positive ones.
