I would import it from play-asia, but awhile back they were all like: Hey, preorder now and get free Phoenix Wright stickers for your DS! (And the stickers were awesome.)

And then they were like: Hey, now that a bunch of people have preordered, we thought you should know that, actually, we don't have any stickers! You'll get some other crappy thing instead, and there's nothing you can do about it! HA HA HA!

You know, to be fair you really ought to factor in at least part of your $3,000 ticket into the cost of the game.

And you can't forget about opportunity cost.  By purchasing the game in Japan, you forfeited your right to be mocked by a GameStop employee for buying a DS game instead of X-Men on UMD.  What's that worth to you?

I was going to import the game, but then I realized that I want Phoenix Wright 3 to be localized...If everyone imports the game then Capcom may think noone wants the third one! ;_;

REAL Phoenix Wright fans will buy both the Japanese and the American versions.
