Confirmed: PS3 Pre-Orders in GS/EB Tomorrow 10/10
« on: October 09, 2006, 03:15:49 PM »
Confirmed through this NeoGaf thread.

Multiple posters have independently called their local EB's or GS's and gotten the same response: they're taking limited pre-orders of PS3s tomorrow Tuesday, 10/10. $100 down, 1 per household, no forced bundles is what I'm hearing. No talk of Supply is expected to be limited, much like the X360 debacle.

Reports seem to indicate that Wii pre-orders are NOT tomorrow, but either later this week or next monday.

Start linin' up... now.

I wonder why they didn't tell me anything over the phone, they called me up and said "Come into the store today before we close, it is regarding the PS3".

yawn... what about the Wii?

Serously anyone who thinks that they have a shot at getting a PS3 who doesn't work at GameStop (or any other reseller) is living in a fantasy land. The second the PS3s are loaded off the truck the staff is going to buy up the systems. The only way someone who doesn't work at a store is going to get their hands on a PS3 is if they buying if off eBay for over $1000.

After hearing about the amazing numbers of Wii which are going to be available...I am not worried at all about pre-ordering.  As I said I am finding the store that will be open at Midnight, and I will buy it there.  Be it Walmart or a local game store.

You guys won't believe this. I went into Gamestop today (in response to the phone call) expecting them to tell me about tomorrows presale. After waiting for a bit and one of the guys who works there (who knows my name) was free, he told me to get a gift card (I had no idea what was going on). In a very quiet voice he asked if I wanted the 500$ or 600$ PS3, I said the 600$ one, and he made some mention about how there are going to be a ton of people in line, then he slid the gift card, asked me to slide my credit card, and the next thing I know I had a 100$ down payment on the PS3. I asked if I needed to do anything else he said "Nope", I was in absolute shock. It is obvious they are giving some of us either preferencial treatment (if this is so my guess it is for the people like me who had to wait a long time for our preorder of the Xbox 360 to come in), or they had a lottery system. Or maybe it was my glowing personality . Either way I was in shock and quite happy!

Dude VG, you gotta do something nice for the guy somehow now... buy him a fruitcake? a hallmark card? Cut him in on your e-bay profits? ... or is that illegal?

Shhh... GameStop spies are listening!

Give him a piece of the system after you smash it up with a sledge hammer. (Did I mention that you should totally smash the system up with a sledgehammer?)

Note how I could have made a comment about how you got the preorder early because you're a girl, but didn't.

Did you guys see the NintendoWiiFanboy.com story about this?  So few units per store?  That's to be expected, though, I guess.

Wow, 2!  Well, I heard no more than 10 Wiis for my local EBGames, so 2 doesn't seem impossible, especially with only 400,000 in the first shipment.

I guess it could also be that the employee was lying and saving a couple for other employees/himself.
That's my opinion, not yours.

With something like this I think EB/Gamestop and all the others will have strict policies on not allowing there employees to get one.  If you local EB is only getting 10 and we know there is a millions Wiis that are coming to the States.  1 mil/400 k that means that for every 2.5 Wiis in the market there is 1 PS3 so now we take that number and divide 10 by it and we get 4.  They should get 4 PS3's in theory.  Just for fun lets take this whole demand thing to its logical conclusion.

If the Wii and the PS3 has the same level of demand and the consumer is willing to pay for the Wii at full price what will be the expected price of the PS3 due to having equivalent demand?

Since it's 2.5 Wiis to every PS3 the price will be 2.5 x $249.99 = $624.98

Wow that was a lot closer to the price then I thought it would be.

Anything said in spoiler tags is automatically subtle. I use this technique in real life, too. For example, if my girlfriend were to ask me if I thought the outfit she was wearin made her look fat, I would respond, "You know what I love most about the ending to the Sixth Sense? The fact that the answer to your question is yes."

lol.
Thats great.

One of my favorite things is to lead people when I talk since I don't cuss.  I find that if you make a sentence and just stop where the word would normally go people will totally fill it in on there own accord.  So if you ask someone to tell you what you said they'll respond with there whatever and there cuss word of choice for the sentence.

I just found out from one of my friends who works at Gamestop that they only got 4 units to pre-order and all 4 were reserved before the store even opened. As you can guess the store employees snagged up the pre-orders 30min before the store even opened. Thou according to my friend they were technically snagged up over a month ago when they had the GameStop employees write their names down in a book if they wanted a PS3 or not.

oh and just FYI my friend was one of the 4 and they plan on selling it on eBay and not even bothering to try it out. I'm betting they could make about $1500 on the system.

Yeah, I've heard of stores getting anywhere from 4 to 10 units to allocate each... probably stores that are higher traffic have the "10" allocations.

If I ran a Gamestore that wouldn't fly.  Game Pre-orders ok but, a system with a limited amount no.  I need the good press as the place you can find things.

But is making people think you cussed really any different than just cussing outright?

I hardly ever cuss, but, every so often, I will just to hear the "whoa, you said a curse word!" reaction.
