It seems some early risers were temporarily able to place a pre-order for the Nintendo Wii, at the online retailer, Amazon. The new gaming console is not to be released officially until November 19. It's not possible to know exactly how many of the consoles were pre-ordered, however, the device hit #6 on the top sellers list for Game Hardware category! So, that's a bunch!

From reading comments on the Amazon website, it was available for order beginning sometime last Friday, Sept 15. Having sold out all pre-orders the same day, this would seem to indicate a tremendous pent up demand for these devices. Some actually bought more than one!

Here is a comment from one customer that made it under the wire: "Amazon offered preorders with Wii Sports included for $249 today. With 1 day expedited shipping ran $283.83. No absurd bundle required. They began taking preorders this morning and had sold out of preorders by 11 am cst."


Is this really why Amazon was taking pre-orders for a whopping three hours? I can't find anything else about it, so it might be bull. But if it's true... My god.

It's true because I got my reservation in (mentioned in the pre-order thread).

But it's only a backup plan. I've never had good luck getting pre-orders in a timely fashion from them.

When I pre-order stuff there, there's always an extra day or two before they finally "prepare it for shipping" and mail it. Even with overnight shipping it's possible we wouldn't get it until the following Wednesday or whatever, unless they guarantee an on-time delivery like they did the Harry Potter books or something (which isn't likely).

EBGames.com will do bundles, and they've shipped boxes early. They're a better bet if you really wanna get it asap.

Yeah, I mentioned it at the end of this thread That's just incredible, and it shows that the Wii will be in high demand come launch. Might as well post the other bit of news from the other thread..

As it stands now, if you preorder anytime soon you're guaranteed one on launch day. If you miss out, you will probably have to wait until they get their second shipment, which will arrive the day after launch (awesome!).

They are also planning on opening at midnight to launch the console. You can wait in line if you don't preorder, or pick up your preorder then.

I think Amazon only offered an extremely low number of preorders because they haven't yet received shipment numbers. Once they do, they'll probably open up for a round 2.

Me, I plan on a midnight Walmart run.

You know Nintendo waited so long to release the launch price and date you think they already have their numbers.
