Exactly.  Now we can enjoy uncensored Fire Emblem in a language we can't read.

This is minor but cool.

YES!!!! This is the best news yet. Region Protection is complete BS in the first place, I'm glad Nintendo is guaranteeing their games to be region free.

How do you know I can't read what they're saying in FE? Besides, I'm not talking about plot censorship, I'm talking about gameplay censorship. So far, not a single Fire Emblem has made its way outside of Japan without getting the gameplay butchered. An entire mode was taken out of the Gamecube POR. Thank god I imported that sucker.

That sucks. If it was guaranteed that all titles would be region free, I'd just get myself a Japanese Wii so I didn't have to pay $38 friggin' dollars for Wii Sports.

You'd then be spending that $38 on importing and shipping fees

I'm not interested in Wii Sports, either - but I'll be glad to have it.

Would you guys be willing to pay 250 for it if it was packed with Mario Galaxy? I know I would. Still, I wouldn't be so hard on Wii sports yet. I enjoyed Mario Golf/Tennis and right now I'm also enjoying Pangya Golf online... Which is also coming to Wii.

This is more than just minor.

Developers can save alot of money by developing the game from the start with multiple languages, and release the game ONCE for the entire world, instead of having to get a secondary team later to do translations...and Nintendo can release a Jump Star game on the Wii with English translation already installed only in Japan, but importers can reap the benefit of the game still.

This could increase sales of all games for Wii world-wide.  It is not a little thing...it is quite big.

Definately more than minor for me. Nearly half of my Cube games are US versions and if I can import to avoid the price gouging I will. I wonder if my GC imports will be able to be played on Wii then?

Now, if it's true that the Europe date is in March, why wouldn't someone over there just order one from the states??

This'll be good for those who wish to import Wario Ware.

Of course, the wonderful part about this is when games like Viewtiful Joe come out completely localized from the get-go ... we can import and not have to wait ... or when the occasional great game like Band Brothers comes out in Japan and never makes it to the States.

Right. Nintendo SAYS publishers can choose whether or not they want region-locking...but doesn't that imply region-locking will cost more? I'm sure ALOT if not MOST publishers will want that region locking...and here Nintendo is trying to force what they want down dev's and publisher's throats by saying that, if you want this standard feature, you'll have to pay more money. Now, do I want games to be region free? Personally, I don't care. I don't import games so whther or not they are region locked doesn't matter to me. But I bet devs WILL care, which will lead to less third party support. Really, this is starting to look like the Cube all over again. Actually, it's stuff like this that is the reason I won't be buying a Wii at launch. I can't guarantee that the console will be a success - why should I risk $250 when I'm not even sure the conosle will do well?

The 360 is region free aswell, its up to the individual devs as to whether to utilise it or not.

@Donut if it was blanket region-free I would definately import a Wii from the US, but if it turns out that only say 50% of games are region free it may not be worth it.

Well they need to figure it out.

And I hope they figure it out by looking online at all the people saying region free kicks muthaf*cking booty.

Also, wandering.  Are you f*cking kidding me?

You know who cares about region locking?  About 3% of the entire gaming population.  Maybe 5%.

There will not be one person out there who isn't in that 3% bitching about it.  No soccer moms are going to ask the clerk at Gamestop if it is region locked.  "Region locked!  Wtf!  I'm getting you a PSP, Timmy."

Seriously.  You might as well complain that the box it is being shipped in is cardboard.  Cuz cardboard smells bad after a while if it gets wet.  That might be a more legitimate reason to be whiny about something insignificant.
I must find a way to use "burninate" more in my daily speech.
