hahaha, you all know that you are gonna be forced to buy a bundle with games and stuff you don't want or need, right?

but just in case I get to pick my own bundle, I will probably just get one extra controller and nunchuck (but not open, just buy as a later replacement) and maybe Raymay, definately Zelda and whatever looks good.

I will be more open to 3td party this round than before, because of what we all did with GCN, it hurt the GCN.  So if a neat game comes around I will look into it.

To be honest, the Japanese are not getting Wii sports packed in and the system costs 210 dollars. Nintendo is charging 40 bucks for Wii sports.

I think the main problem fans have is that Nintendo is pushing up the price of the Wii by forcing onto them a 40 dollar tech demo. It may be fun and may prove that the Wii is the way of the future, but it's kinda unfair to force it onto them.

Japan's bundle doesn't include it and it's $212.

Ours does and it's $250.

Doesn't take an econ degree to realize that that isn't "free".

We all knew that $249.99 (US) was the most expensive the Wii could be. We were expecting the rumored $179.99-$229.99 price range, but when all is said and done, we always knew that $249.99 was a possibility. There is really no excuse for bitching about price, it's not like Nintendo didn't warn us months ago (The Wii will cost less than $250 - which it does...by a penny). I was expecting the final package that we're getting (with Wii Sports, too) for the $230 pricepoint. It didn't happen and $20 isn't going to break the deal for me.

While we may all be pissed about how much Nintendo is charging to put WiiSports in there, it has to be packaged. Bottom line. Remember you people are not Nintendo's target market anymore, they know you will buy no matter what, whether it be now or later. They need to open the door to new gamers and the perfect game to make people interested in the Wii is something simple like WiiSports. Parents will go to buy a game system for their kids and see the Wii, which has a game packed in. That game means they don't have to buy another and their kids can use the system. Maybe when they see their kids are enjoying the game and it is simple to play, they will buy another Wiimote and they will hop on and have some fun with it too right along side their children. $50 is alot to us because we expected it to be $200 most parents will see the reasonable price tag and throw down the cash. It definitely beats the $400 360 and the $600 PS3 where they HAVE TO pick up another game. Understand that selling the Wii is business not about appeasing all us fanboys. I'm sure WiiSports will be fun, hey they even threw in 2 new sports, suck it up and deal with it. If you don't like it that much don't buy one. But in the end of it all it's only 40 bucks extra, life goes on, it shouldn't stop anyone from buying a system that almost definitely will a true videogame revolution.

OK, let's just stop the myth that the Japanese system costs $212.  It doesn't.  You can't do a Yen to Dollars comparison, it just doesn't work.  There's a concept that many of you aren't familiar with which is the "purchasing strength" of currency.  Factoring that in (I'm not going to bore you with the math, I did enough of that in another thread), the Japanese price of the Wii is actually higher ... only by single digits, about six dollars, actually, but still higher.

We're getting a HELL of a deal, not to mention getting it two weeks early.  Do I wish it were $199?  Sure, but who wouldn't?  Will I still get one at launch?  Yes, but the only other game I'll get is Zelda, where I might have picked up something else too.  But since Wii Sports comes with it, I have something to play with the wife, and that's all I really care about.

So here's my package.

Wii - $249.99
Wii-Mote - $39.99
Nunchuk - $19.99
Zelda - $49.99
2GB SD Card - $52.99

Total: $412.95 before tax, roughly $450 total.

Then what sense does it make not to include it in the Japanese package, if it's "free"?

What does $0 translate into in Yen purchasing strength?
"wow."

Wii = $250
Remote (x3) = $120
Nunchuck (x3) = $60
2000 Wii-points = $20
Component Cables (I doubt they're packed in) = ??
Zelda: TP = $50

Total: (Over) $500

Maybes:
Excite Truck (review pending)
Red Steel (review pending)
Marvel Ultimate Alliance (review pending)
Trauma Center Second Opinion (if I feel like it at the time)
Wii Play (if it hits US launch; costs $40 and comes with a remote so I'd add this and nix a remote purchase)
Oops pow suprise!

Now that I think about it, I think some people are being a bit too bitter with this, result of the typical "shock' that comes whenever Nintendo makes a big announcement.

True, I think the system should've been cheaper, but it is still the cheapest of all the three consoles. if you can't afford it and would rather wait till the system is cheaper or a better game is released, then fine. If you can afford everything at launch, fine. It just that there is no point arguing a personal buying decision.

In my case, I can't afford the system at launch. Hell, I can't even afford a Nintendo DS game right now because a great deal of my money is going towards school projects. But I'm not that upset about it.

You either buy it at launch or don't It's as simple as that.

That's the general feeling with quite a few people, minus the wife and desire to own WiiSports.

At $250, Microsoft could do a surprise price drop of the 360 core package and be at the same price in the US, making it much harder to convince a graphically-oriented US that their console is a better choice than the 360.

Wii: $250
Zelda: $50
Wiimote: $40

Total: $340.

(for reference, the cube was Cube + SSBM + Pikmin + extra controller...only $20 cheaper, I think.)

Except Microsoft won't, and the Wii will sell out.

Wait, WHAT?!?!

So not only are we paying extra for a goddamn TECH DEMO, but Japan gets to forgo the tech demo and then get a free game with a 2nd controller?

I'd take it in Dec. to avoid this BS, thanks.

To be fair, the Japanese tech demo is even less of a game than WiiSports.

I don't want tech demos, though (I still regret buying Luigi's Mansion).

I'd rather just pay the baseline console price, get a game of my choosing and grimace while I pay $180 for additional controllers that can be used for multiplayer Red Steel.

But whatever. I don't agree with this decision by Nintendo and as such, I'll simply borrow my friend's copy of TP once he's done with it while I enjoy Ubi's launch offerings.

I have a pair.  I'm just a bit tired of your constant bitching.  Didn't your mother ever teach you if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all?

So the price is high?  Yeah, it sucks.  I wish it were cheaper.  Oh well.  Get over it.
So WiiSports is packaged in with the game?  I probably wouldn't buy it on its own, but now that I have it, it's a great excuse to show it to nongamer friends and family.  That's Nintendo's plan.
So VC games are higher than you wanted?  So you can get them for free via ROM?  Good for you.  I'm not a thief.  Nice to know you don't think stealing is wrong.

Quit the constant emo act and slit your wrists already.  That, or just be glad Nintendo is not only surviving but thriving against such strong competition.

I really wanted Metroid Prime 3 so I'm probably going to wait until next year and get the console in black. Getting Wii is tempting, but I plan on getting Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin and maybe Twilight Princess on Gamecube. If Twilight Princess on Wii can wow me enough, I'll wait. Thank the Lord for demo kiosks.
