It's Super Mario Strikers title by the looks of it. They're going to play it on stage now - they first choose captains. Bowser, Peach, Mario and Donkey Kong are selectable, and then they pick companions and a stadium.

So now we won't have to wait 3 years for "every sport under the sun starring Mario," I guess.

It's called Mario Strikers Charged

They've chosen Thunder Island as the stadium. "Rated: Lethal!" It looks very similar to Super Mario Strikers, graphically. Shot from the side and above, and very similar shooting mechanism.

It's got special moves - super shots. Mario leaps into the air and fires the ball down from the sun. Another player holds up his hands, using the Wii controller to block.
"wow."

Balls appear at points on the screen, and you have to drag the hands to their position to block in a split-second.

Another new game:  Battalion Wars 2.

I am pumped to see how both Strikers and Batallion Wars use the Wiimote (besides the short demo for Strikers).

I sure hope there is more news than that stuff at Lepzig, maybe in interviews later on? Even if there aren't, at least they showed two new games that have alot of promise!

Format: Wiiâ„¢
Game Type: Fighting Football
Players: 1-4
Developer: Next Level Games / Nintendo

KEY INFORMATION

Take to the pitch as Mario Strikers Charged (the follow up title to Mario Smash Football) returns with an all new roster of features, only for Wii.

• Use the skill the Wii Remote and Nunchuk Controller provide to win the ball, score unstoppable goals and take control of the goal keeper to perform spectacular saves

Characters: Mario is joined by other famous Nintendo characters who take on the role of captain. Players then select a host of popular teammates to make up the rest of the team.

How to progress through the game: Players form an original team by combining one of 12 captains with three of eight sidekicks before competing in one of the games many modes. Anything goes in Mario Strikers Charged as players are allowed to utilize a variety of special abilities to clinch important goals.

Super abilities/power ups/moves/features: Each captain has their own set of skills, super abilities as well as the ability to perform special shots called Mega Strikes, where the iron ball splits up to five balls and flies at the goal. The defending player must use the Wii Remote to target and aim at and shoot these balls out of the air before they concede a goal. In this game players can also charge energy to the metal ball, making it more likely to find its target when fired at goal.

Each of the stadiums in Mario Strikers Charged have various characteristics and contraptions, which influence game play. Players must learn to use this to their advantage to truly dominate the pitch.

Multiplayer: Mario Strikers Charged will not only feature an action packed multiplayer mode but will also support the Nintendo WiFi connection service, allowing players to take part in tournaments with people from all around the world.

WiFi!

HELL YES!

EDIT: BWii ONLINE AS WELL! AWESOMENESS!

Battalian Wars Wii sounds pretty sweet.  I was interested in the Gamecube and planned on maybe buying it when the price dropped.  Now I think I'll just wait until this one comes out since it sounds like it'll be a big improvment over the original with the online play and everything else.

Worst.  Let down.  Ever.

Ok thats it.  I'm tired of Nintendo jerking us around.  "We Prove are Promise"  My .... .  That was nothing.  It was fluff.  They made announcements early in the week that where more exciting.

Mario Strikers wii... Woopty flip.  Really too soon.
Battallion Wars Wii.  Great but yet again Woopty Flip. Really too soon.
Did we prove that Nintendo is turning into Sony more and more.  Yep I think that's pretty clear now.

I'm sure right now, Matt and the other journalist that Flew to Europe to go to this event expecting something big are being laughed at.
This all could have been done just as effectively with a press release and a demo reel.  No reason to even invite the foreign press.

Each time Nintendo jerks me around like this I want the Wii less and Less.  With this last Jerking I'm no longer saving money for the Wii.  .... it.  If this is how Nintendo wants to treat me then forget it.  I'll go over to MS who doesn't Jerk me around.

I'm going to reread everything and Maybe just Maybe I missed something.  Though I don't think so.
My trust in Nintendo is slowly but surely being undermined by stuff like this.  Yesterday if you would ask me if I beleived the Wii had all the features that Nintendo has promised.  I would say yes without any real hesitation.  Just had Faith they be their in some form.  Now I honestly can't say that I beleive the Virtual Console will actually be working on day 1 or that the Wii itself won't have hardware problems.  But according to this Nintendo has promised us nothing.

Phantom = PS3
PS3 = Wii.

Next announcement entitled "Wii Reveal All".
"Wii are very excited your are here.  As you know the Wii will be a revolutionary Console.  With games you can play with are revolutionary new input.  With a Blue Ocean Strategy like the DS.  The DS has ..% of the Dog population and ..% of the Urban Gangsta Population that we have been having a hard time with now.  It was a hard battle but we overcame the PSP in these areas assuring are market dominance.
There are going to be multiple new titles for your DS this year.  Please be excited.  Also in every territory but the US we will be releasing a Red, White, and Blue DSLite with an etched Bald Eagle on it.  We think these will sell well.  Sorry US NOA has opted to forgo this exciting new product to keep uniformity in the look of the US DSLite population to avoid brand confusion.
Some of the games you will be playing on your DS withing the next year.  Cooking with Soncho.  Wonderful Boy Yami.  Megaman spinoff.  Nintencat.  Oddballz.  NSMB 2.  As you can see this is a very exciting time for the DS and are three Pillar strategy.
*Shows DS footage*
*Shows people playing the Wii*
With the Wii you really have to experience it to know it.  That being said there will be no public Demo of the Wii at this event but please feel free to visit are DS booth.  In fact there are new and exciting features we are releasing on the DS.  Soon your DS will be able to make phone calls much like a Voip phone.  This feature could be used to contact your friends to ask them to play games or just as a cheap phone alternative.
*Shows someone playing a "new" Wii game*
I am pleased to announce that Soul Calibur will be making a return to a Nintendo platform.  I am also pleased to announce Pikmin 3 is in development.
*end*"

The next Event held 2 Day AFTER the launch of the Wii entitled: "How the DS will change the Future" (for fun lets say this is November 19.)
"The DS really helped prove our Blue Ocean Strategy.  Which was the foundation of are strategy with the Wii.  Now I know why you all are here.  You want to know the launch price and date of the Wii.  Well the Wii will be launched on November 17th with a launch price of $250 please put your preorders in now. In an unprecedented move to expand are market for the first month you will not be able to obtain the Wii threw traditional channels.
Yes you heard me right.  Wii are really trying to expand the market so we thought of the best way to attract people who did not follow Nintendo news already.  We came up with launching on the same day as the PS3 because that allowed us to distract the Hardcore.  Then we coupled that with offering the Wii through such retailers as Cingular, Verizon, Belks, Krogers, and McDonalds.  We have foregone are traditional avenues of distributions, including Gamestop Corp, Walmart, Target, KMart, Best Buy and other traditional game vendors, until December the 17th.
Also Developers units have been shipped to the press as of Today.  Please be expecting them."

Done.  Thats it.  Still hasn't told us anything and the system is out.  Still worried that Sony might steal the secret sauce.

The trouble with people getting dissapointed with these events is that the internet is hyping them up to grand proportions and NOT Nintendo. All Nintendo does is let people stir up rumors, they don't create them, they title an event and the hype machine starts from there. Matt and the rest of IGN crew will be fine, I am willing to bet they get to play new builds of Red STeel, Rayman, and also the new games announced, Battalion along with STrikers. That would be worth the trip right there, to get your hands on two new promising titles along with some of the newer builds.
