Confirmed? DBZ 2 Lets us plug in GC controllers to play Wii?
« on: August 14, 2006, 03:36:04 PM »
IGN spills Atari spilling the beans on page 2 of their hands-on of Atari's Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi 2.

And I quote:

Quote

The developers did note to us that they've received tester feedback that using the Wii's controller may tire players. For this reason the Wii version will also have the ability for players to plug in GameCube controllers to control the game the more "traditional" way.

Just as an aside, I hate DBZ, which is giving me conflicting feelings as I actually start to ponder whether I really want to buy this game. Doing the kame-ha-meha sounds so utterly pwnful!

But does this suggest that SSBB and Zelda:TP can also be played with GC controllers?

NO!

This is confirmed from a chat transcript from Camp Hyrule that you can find on Gonintendo.

Quote

TSA: Hi. What is up with the release status of Twilight Princess - is it coming out on GCN everywhere, or just here? Also, will we be able to use the GCN controller for the Wii version?”
NOA_GEORGE_HARRISON: Zelda TP will be releasing on both GCN and Wii on the same day as the launch of Wii.
NOA_GEORGE_HARRISON: The GCN controller will be able to play the GCN version on the Wii console, but will not be able to play the Wii version.

Also confirmed: Kairon will now have to buy both versions of Zelda:TP and will be $50 poorer this holiday season.

Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe

Does it talk about the Wii games in general? NOPE
It's only talking about support within DBZ Wii.  Not all games.

Will SSBB support GC controls? YES
Months ago I read that someone interviewed that Sakurai said that SSBB wasn't designed for Remote, it was being designed to play on GC controllers.  "Classic controllers" and "shells" were not mentioned.

Will TP support GC controls?  DUR, YES
Buy the GC version of TP and play it on Wii -- you've got NO CHOICE but to use the GC controller.  Backwerds compatible, you got served.

Will TP:Wii support GC controls?  GAH, I HOPE NOT
Why bother making and releasing 2 different versions for 2 different control schemes?

I thought this was all common knowledge.

The preview mentioned something about their testers getting tired, I'm not too worried about this because I work in the produce section of a NoFrills and my arms and hands are quite used to handle short and quick movements for long periods of time, it's a boring part-time job but it's gonna be useful for something afterall.

What am I trying to say in relation to the Wii controller movements? Well, over time your bodies will adapt and not get tired so quickly. So why even think about using the GC controller when I can have fun gesturing the attacks.

The game, even though it was PS2 wise, looks beautiful btw.

Perhaps their gestures resembled actual fighting too much. Fighting is exhausting.

"Does this suggest that SSBB and Zelda:TP can also be played with GC controllers?"

SSBB was already confirmed at E3.link

How will Super Smash Bros. Brawl utilize the Wii controller?
Sakurai: Rather than just trying to implement too much of the functions of the Wii controller, we want to keep the control simple. I'll just say now that you might not want to throw away your Gamecube controllers just yet. Mr. Miyamoto and Nintendo have encourage developers to use the controller in new and different ways. I look at my role as offering something different. I'm trying to deliver something that has a more standard control scheme.

Where's Rabicle when we need him?  I'll say it: all these "boo-hoo too much moving" people need more FIST.  I mean, I'm a weakling nerd millions of miles from achieving any kind of Fistability, but even I know that exercise is good for me!  Anything that can successfully combine fun video games and exercise is okay in my book.

Of course that begs the question: will this game be any fun? Hmmmmm...
That's my opinion, not yours.

Sheesh, when you consider that I've played games for as 15 hours in a single day, it makes you wonder how buff my arms will be after some gesture-heavy Wii games.

Though I've used the Wii controller at E3 myself, and I've seen firsthand that it's incredibly sensitive.  Or rather that it can be.  It would make for good hand-eye coordination, better than that which is overly bally-hooed (am I using this word in the right context) when playing games with "traditional" button-pushing controls.

You know if its geared to be more like a Dragon Ball Z fight then it will be a loooottt of movement then rest.  You do it all in burst or have to hold a position.  I could see how that could get tiring, especially holding a position.

Nintendo is going to turn us all into burly tough guys and we'll go to the beach and kick sand in other fanboys' faces.

Seriously, I think it's good they're offering the option because this is one game that looks like it will take a lot of movement.  But if I bought this game I hope you'd see me playing it with the remote most of the time.

I just hope we have a good enough idea about which version is better before midnight on launch day. I don't want to have to buy both....
