Konami announced CV:SotN for XBLA
« on: August 04, 2006, 03:45:44 AM »
In a surprising announcement, Konami revealed in the September issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly that its PS1 hit Castlevania: Symphony of the Night will be re-released on Xbox Live Arcade this winter. Originally released back in 1997, SotN is considered by many to be the best in the series, so this is a huge (and welcome) announcement.

I thought the point of Xbox Live Arcade was for, you know, quick arcade games.

If it's up to the developers themselves where their games appear, despite the original platform, maybe some select PlayStation games might show up on the Virtual Console?  It's not like having a 2D CastleVania game makes anyone want to buy PS2/PS3/PSP CastleVania games - if anything, it might encourage people to buy the GBA/DS CastleVanias which are similar.

The XBLA games can't be bigger than the storage that is there to store them, and since MS didn't release HDD w/ every system, they are limited to the size of the memory cards, which are currently 64MB. MS is supposed to release a 128MB or larger mem cards in the near future though.

Wow this is great news, Not just for the fact that XBLA is getting Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, But the fact that they are getting a PLAYSTATION game. This really adds alot of fual to the fire that Nintendo's Virtual Console could very well get PSOne games like Final Fantasy VII, VIII & IX.

The one coming to XBLA has been confirmed to be the Playstation version and not the Saturn version.

I just want Dracula X: Rondo of Blood for the Virtual Console and everything will be perfect.

I think what he was getting at is we could possibly see it on the VC because Genesis (and therefore maybe Saturn) games will be available.

However, I hear the Saturn version is pretty poor compared to the PlayStation version.

(On a side note, what's stopping Rare from bringing Perfect Dark to XBLA?  I'm assuming there are some licensing issues, right?)

didn't know bout the XBLA size limitations; that's quite awesome, and though I'm happy for Xbox users, I worry abnout how many properties Msoft will snag before they can reach Nintendo's VC... or if companies will publish their IP's on Msoft and nintendo's download programs

There's extra stuff in the Saturn version, but technical limitations drag it down a lot.  (This is all hearsay.  I haven't played it myself.)

It goes into the whole Saturn being a beast to program for and so when Konami ported it over the Saturn version ended up with several technical problems and doesn't look quite as good.

But to make up for it the Saturn version added two new area's to the castle and Maria is a playable charactor.  She plays like she did in Rondo of Blood where she uses animals to fight for her.

So it comes down to the Playstation version looks and plays the best, but the Saturn has another playable charactor and new area's to explore.

As it hasn't been mentioned here: MS enforces a limit of 50MB for xBLA games. But as many old games were 95% CD audio that should be doable with MP3.
