Unless you're playing in the bathroom, which would be stupid regardless, the worst that could happen is yanking the plug from the outlet or remote, resulting in damage such as exposed wires, but that can be solved with a simple safety release that many home appliances and Xbox controllers already use.

plus limitations on seating arrangements, the closest available electrical outlet might be at some aweful angle or location away from the tv screen
It's highly probable that there's going to be an outlet very close by in most households. The limiting factor would be the length of the recharging cable in any case, not its mere existence. However, what I think would be more convenient would be a cable from the system to the controller for recharging, which would by necessity of design be a convenient length for gameplay in all but the weirdest of room layouts.

limitations on range of movement (HEY, the Remote is wireless, let it stay wireless)
I think the same rebuttals to the argument against the wire between the remote and the analog stick attachment apply here. It just needs to be long enough not to impede your movements, which shouldn't be wild enough to yank cords out of wall sockets anyway.

and while people complain about being able to provide batteries to power a wireless device, I'll complain about providing an electrical extension cord.
Fair enough, I'd never dare to try to stop your Evil Clown antics.
