Now the secrets are out, the control methods shown at E3 have soaked into your minds, the bugs are being addressed by third parties (Ubisoft is going back to literal sword controls for Red Steel), and new shells have been shown.  What original game do you guys think Wii needs?

I think Wii needs an original, simple, toon shaded, shooter in the vein of Quake and Doom.  A lot of corridors, story told during gameplay, dark themes, and many multiplayer modes including cooperative (and an extensive yet intuitive point and click level editor to make death match live forever allowing you to trade massive maps online and rate them).  The reason for toon shading is I want a shooter that is Mature but the visual style is based on lighting and color rather than shiny metal.  I would think of it as a tip of the hat to the old 2D shooters.

I guess it is very important to explain possible control options.  I would pack in two cusom pistol shells, similar to the one at E3 though smaller and shaped more like a revolver with a round loop for the trigger finger.  One would have a thumb stick and the other would use a small trackball button.  The trackball would control camera freely at any moment during play while its button function would be jump.  The thumb stick would be for running and side stepping.  Using two pistols means two remote allowing you to aim freely with each hand or to wield a pistol in one hand and a melee weapon in the other.  The second way you would turn or look up in the game would be to move both pistols in the same direction at the same time triggering the character's torso to turn.

The sound of your weapon (usually gun) would come from your remote unless you turned that feature off to save battery life.  You could even turn the rumble off to save battery life.  I hope Nintendo will include a port for a cord to hook the controller into the system and charge at the same time (they could still market it as fully wireless).

As always I'll offer some visual aids:

spider mech

troll

I like the way vehicles are used in Halo, Star Wars, and even GTA and believe vehicles should be available.  The entire game would take place on an asteroid, there would be one city inside a large cavern in the asteroid that is open like a GTA with skyscrapers and utilitarian design, streets, and traffic.  The city would take up only an eighth of the mass the rock.  There are regions yet unexplored as well as alien ruins and megalithic temples.  The game would be nonlinear.

By using the Wii remote for combat in a MMO do you mean for point and click or for more like for sword fighting or drawing diagrams to cast spells?

I think the Wii needs a game that makes people think "how did we ever do without this motion control stuff".  Right now it's like "that's neat" but there isn't anything that screams "THIS IS THE FUTURE; THIS IS THE NEW STANDARD" like Super Mario 64 did for the analog stick.

To me it still looks like a novelty.  Yeah WiiSports looks fun but is it BETTER than a tennis, golf, or baseball game without motion control?  That's what Nintendo has to establish if all their talk of new standards and such is to be taken seriously.  Right now they're got something different but they have to yet to show something better and that's what makes new standards.

nemo and his vehicles, at least you are not commenting about metroid this time

I like the first person shooter idea, but my real dream game is a flying game, much better if its with angels or other similarly winged creatures. I was excited about the rumors of the kid icarus and nights sequels, but they weren't even mentioned at E3... at least they weren't debunked so I still have hopes.

Crafting game.  I really like to try some different crafts but getting materials and equipment is expensive.  Even if this is part of a bigger game I like when with real cutting the wood or carving so you can make unique things.
Monster Rancher. Yeah.  Monster Rancher.  Even if it's redone with Pokemon instead.
Black and White.
DDR and Guitar Hero.  It just sort of make sense in a way.

I'm trying to think of somethine truly original to post but I'm drawing a blank.

A game that nobody can guess. We're not supposed to be telling Nintendo what we want, they are supposed to tell us.

Like the "Pikmin" of the GameCube, and the "Nintendogs" of the DS. Wii needs (actually it doesn't "need" anything) something like that, not the 14th FPS to release on the system.

I think Nintendo needs to make a GTA-type game as far as open-endness goes, not a game like GTA. Some totally new that really breaks the limits of how much you can do.

I've been waiting for them to attempt something like that too. Maybe Animal Crossing Wii will be like that if it's completely redone.

A 3d platformer, with pitfalls and powerups; maybe a ridable dinosaur with useful goodies like coins or secret passages scattered about. It'd be fun.

My guess is that Wii needs an exciting third person action game... sorta like Project H.A.M.M.E.R. but with more promise... hmm... maybe Disaster: DoC...

The system does still need that Mario 64 level of a game; I think said game needs to show use how two remotes can be the new standard for character control.

I want an extensive level editor that is simply point and click, I want to be able to build areas wall by wall, even poly by poly, upload and download 2D images for textures, create weapons, assign them attributes (elemental, projectile, moving parts, bloom lights, scopes, speed, pre-impact explosive, etc), and most importantly be able to create characters from scratch by either loading up a series of profile 2D images or by molding the character manually in the game like Spore.

I want to be able to go into a menu and select pipes, furniture, vehicles, trees, skylines, architectural styles, sounds, physics, triggers, etc.

A flying game is much needed; I'd put flying in most any game I made if I were a developer on Wii.

I have ideas for games that could not be done on any other system but I honestly won't know if Wii can do it until Nintendo does it first; to use two remotes for character movement.  I've talked before about a game where player one controls a large animal using two remotes to run while player two and three chose from a selection of riders that use different weapons; with player one controlling the running and jumping, the other players use two remotes to control their riders' hands (sword, shield, lance, axe, hammer, bow, elemental spells) and everyone can share one screen if playing on the same console.

An action/rpg that uses a gesture-recognition based spellcasting system (like Black and White, but less clunky gestures). Combat should be based on recognizing what your opponent is trying to do and responding appropriately, like any good fighting game. Thus, if you see your opponent drawing the gesture to call lightning, you can either dodge or create a shield above yourself. There should be a lot of different possible interactions between spells, and hundreds of spells (obviously any one character would only be able to get a fraction of those). Good AI would be a must.
Defenestration - the only humane method of execution.

Games that need to be revisited.

Adventure games/Detective Games.

I want a game that requires you to use tools in an enviroment to unlock evidence and clues to solve crimes.  Something with a cool story that consists of small episodes leading to a much bigger story.

Puzzle games.  The PC had tons of atmospheric puzzles games like "The 13th Guest" and such that incorporated complex puzzles into a fun game world.  The Wiipointer will allow for some pretty elaborate and sinister.  This game would also appeal to non gamers much like Myst did.

Educational Interactive Cartoons.  Yes I know this isn't for the majority of us.  But think of Blue's Clues, or Dora the Explora with real interactions.  It could even have branching stories and such.  Well constructed 3D models could be used and once the models are made new episodes could be made fairly cheaply.

Photo taking game:  I loved Pokemon Snap.  But I wished it was a free roaming world.  I want to try to sneak up on the animals...and lure special shots and such on my own...and not as a part of a ride.  The Wiipointer would allow for some nice Zoom features, and focus.
And if you have the shakes when you take the picture you may find your photos a little blurry.  (But perhaps you meant to do that.)

Oregan Trail: Hear me out.  This game was one of the ultimate educational games.  It really made you understand through simple questions, and random events how dangerous travel was back then.  Add to that chore mini-games, like chopping wood.  Sawing wood.  Building your house.  Defending against raids and so on.  You could have a pretty interesting game.
