Nintendo systems and how long it took me to get them:

NES - a few years
GB - many years
Super NES - eleven months
N64 - four months
GBC - within a month
GBA - the day after, evening
GCN - launch day, morning, hour after store opening
DS - launch day, morning, half-hour after store opening
Wii - ?

There's always been less time between the launch "moment" and my acquisition of one (with the exceptions of the Game Boy (I didn't get an original Game Boy, I got a Game Boy Pocket when Pokémon came out which was WAY later) and the Virtual Boy (rented but never bought)).

This means that I should obtain a Wii on the morning of launch day (whenever that is), hopefully in less than half an hour to maintain the streak.  I'm not aware of any midnight releases around here so it's all dependent on store hours, unfortunately.

A few more Nintendo systems and I'll have to start getting them BEFORE they officially come out.  >_>

I played some Wiis at E3 but that doesn't count, 'cause I played Japanese N64s months before it came out in North America.  Glad to see that launches have gotten closer by region...the DS came out in North America before Japan if I recall correctly.

I'm gonna be Wii-partying within a day or two of launch, depending on how prompt I am at getting to my store of preference's shipment.

NES - 3 years after
SNES - LAUNCH DAY + Super Mario World and Final Fight
N64 - Day Before Launch Day (worked at Toys R Us) + the only 2 games available at launch (Super Mario 64 & Pilotwings 64)
GCN - Launch Day Morning + 5 Games
DS Lite - Launch Day Morning + 5 Games
Wii - Projected:  Launch Day Morning + 5 Games + 2 Wii Systems

Note to all:  Don't forget to register them at Nintendo.com = Free NP Mags.

The older you get and the more funding = Launch Day + 5 games

NES - Never Owned
GB - a year after launch.
Super NES - a few months after launch.
N64 - Launch day saved my own money.
GBC - Never Owned
GBA - Launch Day
GCN - launch day
DS - launch day
Wii - Definate Launch Day.

I always try to preorder my system if I am going to get it the day of launch.  I didn't do this with the DS though.

I know I will be buying one at launch.  I just don't know how much money I will have available for games...and which games I will pick up at launch.

I will definately do my homework and wait for reviews of all games.  However I know positive I will be picking up Zelda for Wii, and perhaps a lighthearted party game.

Later on I will get another the other time consuming games of Metroid Prime, and such...after I beat Zelda.

He must be ambidextrous and a genius.  Control the Wiipointer with your feet and the Nunchuku with your hands.  With the amazing dual home entertainment system.  Actually it's to make sure that 1 has to be hooked up to the good TV.  Also how else are you going to test Network play?  Or finally play Double Dash over a network?  If this was a government run institution then it would be because the "Game Console" line item must fill x amount of space.  The possibilities the possibilities.  Or 1 could be a dedicated PlanetGameCube Forum Checking Device (DePGCFoCheDe fool. )

On the DS I was the first person to own one in my town on the official launch day.  I got it at midnight straight.  Everything else either Christmas or when I finally scraped up the cash.  (No SNES though)

The Wii.  I like to do that again but, More than likely if I did pick it up launch it would sit until I can get some time.  Hmm... I only have a quarter of a year to get my life straight.  Plus I probably want to hear what you guys say before I pick up my launch games.  I know Zelda is a given but I have a backlog of GCN games to play and I'm interest in starting with something that's not a series because I know the series will not become hard to find, like Cubivore did.

The imfamous "Nintendo 64 Kid" is likely going to inspire anyone getting a Wii this year to recreate that scene, if not by launch then by Christmas.  It may be old news now but it would be funny again upon the launch of a new Nintendo console.

Someone should make a "Nintendo Wii Kid" video, a la the "Nintendo 64 Kid" video.  Furiously paw the box, have your sister dry-hump it, and shout "Nintendo WIIIIIIIII!" exactly as he says "Nintendo SIXTY-FOOOOOOOOUR!"  If the person doing it isn't a seven-year-old kid and yet the scene is exactly the same otherwise it might even be funnier.

Start rehearsing now.

Back on topic, if the launch date happens to be on a weekday for some bizarre reason, would you skip school/work to ensure you get one?

Since I have no idea what point a system had in its lifetime I'll try to describe it in other words:

GB: Shortly after I got it SML2 came out
SNES: It came with SMW and an SGB
GBC: Around the time the first Pokemon games were selling big
GC: Came with Super Mario Sunshine, which, as I gather, was just released
GBA(SP): When it was new
PS2: When the 70k model was relatively new
DS: ~5 months before launch

I've been burned by the DS and will try to avoid buying any system at launch day.

Has Nintendo released a console in the last 10 years on a day other than Sunday?

Also, I probably would not skip work. If my Wii is pre-ordered, I'd pick it up during my lunch break, provided I pre-order downtown. If it's a Sunday launch, I'll pre-order from the GameStop a few blocks away from my house (about a 10 minute walk).

"Ian: Will it take you that long to beat Zelda...because a price cut won't come until a while."

Probably not unless I'm really busy and can't find the time to play.  So I guess I would get it sooner if Metroid Prime 3 gets good reviews.

The only launch title I really want is Corruption, so it all depends how it turns out, Ill avoid the console (at least for launch anyway) only if Corruption turns out horrible, which I hope it wont happen.

I got my NES years after launch, I barely even knew what it was until I played one at my cousin's house in 1989.
I got my Super NES right on launch day 'cuz I had a paper route and that made me relatively rich for a 13-year-old (or was it 14?  Whatever).
I wanted an N64 at launch, but I had no cash and had to beg my parents for one for Christmas.  How undignified!
I always get my handhelds well after launch.  DS is the first one I bought without waiting for a price drop, though I tried.
GameCube on launch day.
Wii, definitely on launch day.  I'll play it as fast as I can get home.  I'll skip church, I'll take the day off work, whatever it takes.  It looks awesome.
That's my opinion, not yours.

I don't have a clue when I got NES or SNES, but I got N64 the christmas after launch, Cube on launch day (with my own money), and definitely getting Wii on launch day...probably while intensely debating on what to play first between Zelda TP and Prime 3!

NES - Christmas 1991
SNES - July 1995
Gameboy - Christmas 1996
N64 - Febuary 1998
Gameboy Color - June 1999
Gamecube - July 2002
Gameboy Advance SP - Summer 2003 (This is the only one I cant remember well)
DS - July 2005 (I bought it when they released the special blue version with Mario 64 DS bundled in)
Wii - Spring 2007

There's still several Gamecube games I'm playing right now and with Super Paper Mario and Zelda TP arriving on the Gamecube this fall, I really dont need to spend between $200-250 to buy a Wii right away.

I'll buy one in either Febuary or March for Metroid Prime 3 and Wario Ware.  Plus when I buy one I plan on just downloading as many classic games as possible for the first few days.
