You'll never see a game system named like one of my favourite words, "floccinaucinihilipilification".

That's...let me see...12 syllables...I think?

Here, I'll use it in a sentence:
"Sony themselves gives me every reason to floccinaucinihilipilificate the PS3."

Both are one syllabe each.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Is there a hard rule about syllables or is it based on accents?  I would pronounce smile as one syllable but would say duel more like "doo-uhl" yet I've heard people from other English speaking countries say something more like "dool".

Thats an awesome word but just saying what it means is shorter.

IceCold:  Yep and that was part of the joke.  (It always comes out here in the south whenever we talk about Syllables.)

Cruel is one syllable. Like "cool" with an r inserted.

Cruella is three syllables. Darn you Disney!

Is that "Syllabel" thing arising from something to do with "southern belles" or something as delightfully quaint as that?

The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe

It has to do with a Southern Drawl.

IceCold:  I think your reading it wrong.  It's sil-la-bels.  But hold out the la.

Wow...honestly who gives a sh!t?  If this is what we're to hang our hats on, it's a sad day indeed.

WTF? Fail one syllable? Fa-il. Two. Smile is one? WHUT? Smi-le. It's TWO GODDAMNIT! Duel... well that's slightly more complex to say than usual one syllable words, but it still sounds like one to me. DUEL. Not Due-elle.

Eh? Reading what wrong? I got the joke, and that's why I wrote dyaslexia - since dyslexic people often write something other than what is on their mind, and misspell words..
