Take-Two on Wii

This is amazing news!

Quote

"The positive [aspect] for us is that we haven't been a big player in the Nintendo platform," said president and CEO Paul Eibeler. "The reception that [Wii] received at the E3 show is one that makes us take a real strong look at it. As we grow our sports business, there are opportunities with our sports games to extend them to the Wii system, particularly if you look at baseball, where we have an exclusive arrangement, as well as some of the other sports games that would play extremely well on the Wii product."

For a company that has never supported a Nintendo console, this is very encouraging news! Though I doubt will see GTA, Rockstar's table tennis game sounds destined for Wii debut.

Quote

"...And some of the 2K products will be, [that is,] have an opportunity on the Wii. It's really a late '07, '08 opportunity for us, but it presents an additional revenue stream that we didn't have before."

Still, even with a late release, support from a major western developer is very good news.

Mmmm.  I've never been big on Take Two, and it somewhat is annoying that it took a strong showing at E3 to convince these guys to consider developing for the Wii.

But in all reality that's prolly the case with tons of devs, aye?

Anyway, Ping Pong would be a perfect fit, but I can see TT going nuts with the Wii controller in GTA, holding the gun all gangsta 'n sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

Yeah...

GTA has crazy potential on the Wii. For example, imagine driving with the nunchuck and shooting out your window with the Wiimote!

It's... annoying that Take 2 is thinking of joining the fold?

Psh. We need to hope for a strong launch. We need those Visual Concepts games, darn it. And that doesn't even mention Grand Theft Auto 4. They've been thinking up the next evolution in GTA since 2001, and I can't IMAGINE Rockstar not making something good. They've always made great games.

Leave the evil of PS3, Rockstar... be multiplatform. Wii love you.

No it's annoying because TT is doing the same asinine bullshit Sony and MS Fanboys did, only they are doing it at the corporate level.

If they bring games...

If they bring good games, then I'm all for it.

I'm just saying it's close-minded non-risk taking moron EA mentality bullshit that was keeping TT away, and probably a LOT of devs away.  Why?  Because they'd rather hash out sequel after sequel instead of actually attempting to try something new.  I'm saying it took a storm of people to change that opinion, when you'd think most people would be wowed enough by the initial concept.

Thankfully E3 obliterated most of that bs.

"I'm just saying it's close-minded non-risk taking moron EA mentality", it seems as though EA is very supportive of Nintendo. THey make mostly sports games and really don't tread out of it, but they are so profitable because they have the highest exposure.

As a fan of Visual Concepts sports games, Take Two support would be a great. VC has shown that will continually innovate with their sports titles. EA tends to rest on their laurels until a competitor, such as VC, comes up with better product. I'm sure the team at Visual Concepts could make great use of the Wiimote.

Okay, well EA puts most of their titles on Nintendo platforms (like GC) despite the fact that they sell about 70% less.  In fact, the only reason NCAA football was canceled was because it would cost more to port the game than they would make back.  I believe it sold 35,000 copies the prior year on the GC, so say all you want about the games, but the company does support Nintendo even when it seems as if there's no reason to, financially speaking.

I would love to see full Take Two support, but unless they include all their sports titles, and GTA, I am not jumping for joy.  It's ridiculous that GTA has not been at the very least ported over to the GC, and for the new incarnation to be left off the Wii is just stupid.

Ok, EA was a bad example.

My point is that TT and a slew of companies didn't even think about deving for Nintendno until post E3.

That's just plain retarded.

Had E3 been any different, we'd have idiots like Mark Rein running around still spouting crap like g1mm1ck/weak specs/not worth it/etc etc etc over and over.  But thankfully E3 showed a blitz of response to the point where devs are thinking they want a piece of the pie.

I thought Nintendo published Uniracers.   Edit: Google search confirms it.

This is good news, but I agree with Strell, it's pathetic that these guys only considered Nintendo after seeing the wave of people at E3.  Still, it's awesome that that wave of people at E3 is rippling out into the ocean and creating things like better third party support.
That's my opinion, not yours.

This wouldn't be an issue if Nintendo supported Body Harvest back in the N64 days and handled their relationship with DMA Design much better.

In terms of sports and support, Nintendo fans should be happy to get any means of support after the last 2 generations of being supported by first and second parties.

Really? How so? I bought and loved both Body Harvest and Space Station Silicon Valley and my perception was that these games did so poorly on the market place because the graphical level of the games were simply.... dreadful. (and to a Nintendo gamer, of course, the actual game control was psitively horrendous!)

With GTA 3, they finally got a decent graphical showing, they struck on that wonderful free-roaming world, AND they applied their british sense of humor to a vast satire of america! Oh, and they violence and sex helped a bit too.

But seriously, how did Nintendo drop the bomb on DMA aside from not buying them up? Both Body Harvest and Space Station Silicon Valley got good Nintendo Power coverage...

Not sure I would consider Rockstar the developer of great games, fun games, perhaps but is a stretch. They are a fairly lazy developer, and tend to suck an idea dry without much new in games. Just look at GTA3, GTA 3.25 Vice City, and GTA 3.50 San Andreas, not a whole lot of difference and still retain the crappy aiming, gltiches and relatively poor graphical style (by today's standards). When it comes to their support, I am going to have to accept it, because they will hopefully attract the oh so sought out "me am mature because I kill lots of things like prostitutes" North American gamer of today.

GTA DOES suck from a game control and game design standpoint. But it gives you a free-roaming world and is a hilarious dark satire on american culture. It makes players reference the real world to create a more immediate immersive effect because of the subconscious relationships they have with the game's environments. It's basically Body Harvest - Big Bugs + overt violence to people + satire on America - goal-constrained gameplay + free-roaming world + earthboundish use of realistic setting to alter the player's perception of the game world.

GTA DOES suck, but at least appreciate it for what it is.

What sucks in my opinion about GTA is camera, lack of true analog character control ten years after Mario 64, the jump button could be on the left shoulder, the target is retarded, shoot should be on the right shoulder, the game needs a free roam first person mode like Goldeneye or Halo, it has awful clipping, the sun glare is blinding, the fog gives me flashbacks to Turok, I get stuck in windshields in some of the games and some times fall through walls, and worst of all things (aside from camera control) is the racial stereotypes.  I would be embarrassed to play GTA with my girlfriend.

In Japan they first think about the character and making that character unique, and then they generate their world based on that character.  But GTA seems to be built the other way.  First the world is created and then they drop in their color book cliche character.  I believe they really need to create an original character next time.  They could also have an unlockable Nintendo exclusive series of characters.

The good about the game is you can go anywhere and do what ever you want.

Though there are some little things that need to be fixed like increasing the AI of the cops, not just so they are smarter but so they are not perfect computers that can find you no matter where you are.  And how come cops in GTA are portrayed as people who shoot you in the back first and ask questions later?  I also want multiplayer, co-op, and counter-op.

A good "sandbox" game on the Wii would be nice, but I doubt we'll see one from Rockstar or TakeTwo.  To date, every GTA clone created has sucked mightily, so I doubt it would happen.  It would be nice to see a sandbox-type game with a different theme than urban crime, but seeing as just about everything that comes out these days is market tested cookie-cutter crap, I doubt we'll ever see one.

Nemo_83, I agree with you on all those issues. As a simple game GTA 3 has so many flaws it boggles the mind. Gameplay, technology, etc.

But when you criticize the above you fail to realize that GTA is a dark satire on American pop culture. DMA is, after all, based in Scotland. They're outside looking in and using their British irreverance to hold a comedic mirror up to American stereotypes and culture.

The game isn't meant as a serious interpretation of a world, but a pull-no-punches expose on our modern culture's quirks, ridiculousness, and self-image.

And regarding your "girlfriend," what you should do is turn on the radio in GTA: SA and park the car somewhere and just LISTEN to the non-music station where satire and parodies that occur. That's what my roommate did when his girlfriend came over and they were laughing for two straight hours.

Every commercial, talk show and program on that radio channel is so obviously a tongue-in-cheek production that you can't help but laugh. They hit on American obesity ("Celebrate...with Cake!" commercials where a mother stuffs her son with cake so that he's too heavy to run away at age 18), underground homosexuality (Frisbee in the dark, where you don't know who's on who's "team"), our red-state-blue-state craziness (the he-said-she-said radio political program featuring a male liberal commentator and his very angry conservative wife, and their arguments), and so many of our American social and cultural quirks that it's impossible not to see that the Brits are expertly turning their biting comedic talents to our american prim and proper puritan sensibilities about our urban culture.

Besides, a panelist at E3 said that GTA 3 was obviously a dark comedy and shouldn't be taken seriously. If a panelist at E3 says it, it must be true!
