Ok, this might not be the best place for this but for the people who state that HD resolutions don't make a large difference look at this site.

Lord of the Rings HD vs DVD

It's from an HD stream, probably from cable or like source, not actually either one of the formats but I was stun at the difference it made.  I didn't expect that much difference at all.  Though I guess thats what you get when your source is on par with a National Geographic special.

Yeah, I'm not noticing enough of a difference to even merit $100, let alone $1000.

Of course HD is better. But you have to first buy the TV, then buy the HD receiver or box or whatever, then pay for the channels, then buy good component cables, and now pay a hell of a lot for a HD-DVD or Blu-Ray player.

For me, the difference in clarity isn't even close to being worth it.

That's nice and all, but what kind of difference would I see on my Plasma which doesn't have 1080p, but only 1080i and 720p. Not to mention I also use an upconvert DVD player which makes a difference.

Golden Pheonix:  That was pulled from a 1080i source.  Nobody broadcasts 1080p yet. Also this on CNET is interesting

What I really want to see on HD-DVD or Bluray is that Planet Earth mini-series, I hear it is pretty amazing to watch!

My friend just bought a 42' 720p Pioneer plasma yesterday. Watching standard DVDs on an upconvert player was delicious. I fail to see the need to buy a new machine and re-buy all the movies I already own for a little bit better picture.
