They lost me at "Since development studios have an extremely limited time to flaunt their products at E3, it's fair to say the presentation of a game counts for a significant portion of our impressions."

Translation: The video, though likely fake in its entirety, was good so we gave it the award.
"OK, first we need someone to complain about something trivial. Golden or S_B should do. Then we get someone to defend the game, like Bill or Mashiro. Finally add some Unclebob or Pro666 randomness and the thread should go to hell right away." -Pap64

Not at all. The Games of Show were all playable. And they obviously don't judge based on presentation alone as Wii Sports got numerous mentions.

I was disapointed that Mario didn't win....until I looked into Bioshock.

I'm surprised Zelda didn't get more praise.
I'm worries that after being at THREE E3's people have begun to lose interest in it.

You're right.
The E3 demo was supposably really limited too.
Just the dungeon shown at the press conference and some fishing.
I can see why it didn't get people that worked up. The full game will be a different story.

E3 is about quick play, and people have already quick played. Spore, for example, won GOS last year without being playable. This year it was playable but just got runner up.

If Zelda Twilight Princess is indeed larger than OoT and is just as deep an experience...then it will become game of the year when it is launched.

The only question is...will it be game of the year for Wii or Gamecube...and that totally depends on just how smooth they are able to get the Wii controls.

Not surprised to see Bioshock win, I thought either Too Human or Bioshock would steal the show. Bioshock is one of the few games for Xbox 360 that I've been really looking forward too even before E3.

Too Human had a good shot at it, coming in.  However, the demo at E3 blew hardcore.  It suffered massive frame rate jitters, and wasn't "as compelling as private demos given the weeks before the show."

E3 is alot of smoke and mirrors.  Trailers are a dime a dozen as are promised features.

Credit Nintendo for at least putting up playable demos and being short of the trailer bs.

I have to agree with you here.  I laugh at how many times media gush over games potential during development, and as they get to see products early...and then the reviews reflect a completely different and horrible game.

It is like they will say anything during the previews to build hype and keep good relations with the developers and publishers.

A great neutral example of this is Red Steel.  We have no idea how this game will REALLY turn out.  Yet it has mostly received glowly previews.

yeah...framerate problems were really apparent at the little circle set-up at E3 for Too Human.  The art direction looked great, but the fluidity in character animation were too reminiscent of Eternal Darkness...too stiff and mechanical...i was a bit disappointed...

Bioshock looks cool, yet I can't help but get the "Yet another FPS" vibe from it.  Seriously, the first reel of game footage at Microsoft's press conference seemed to be 80% first-person shooters.  I know it wasn't, but it sure felt that way.
That's my opinion, not yours.

Anyone could make a short movie that's sole purpose is to win game of the show, and bring it to E3 with a list of promises, then after it wins awards expose the crappy journalists.

Ive heard good things about System Shock and System Shock II, and Bioshock is the spirtual succesor to these titles. The games from what I understand arent generic FPS.
