I still think this is hilarious.  Of course the hardware isn't final and there are various versions of dev kits.  Some were actually working Wii cases, some looked like GameCube's and I bet some even looked like PCs.  The DS games in Square Enix's booth were on dev kits too - with a big fat wire sticking out from the cartridge slot.

That reminds me of the PSPs at E3 2004 (I think).  All the PSPs actually did was display and take input.  Everything related to processing was done in a computer in the display stand.  If I recall Sony denied that for a while.
