I don't doubt that Zelda will sell through the roof in North America - if it had gone on sale last Christmas, though, it would have sold more. Regardless, it will easily be a million seller on both GameCube and Wii, and the sales could be a lot more.

I dunno...it seems like a first gen Wii game has a better chance of selling than a game released on the cube at the end of it's life.

I think TP would have underperformed as a Gamecube title for obvious reasons but as a Wii launch title, I suspect it will be the best selling Zelda since Oot.
Inferior graphics and a lack of Wii-mote controls could have hurt it but neither is an issue.
Gamecube title or not, it's better looking than any other Wii title other than maybe Smash Bros and Nintendo even made the extra effort of adding Wii-mote controls.

Well, there must be quite a few people who aren't going to buy a Wii at launch but have Cubes. And considering that this is the biggest title released for the GameCube in months (years), I'm sure it will garner over a million in sales for only the Cube version. Also, with the price of the GameCube going down to $79 US, there will be many people who owned an Xbox or PS2 who buy a Cube just for Zelda, since it's so cheap.

The Wii version probably will sell more, though..

Since this is a Metroid thread I want to know what other people's opinions are of the new hunters that are being included in this.  Apparently the ice guy in the demo isn't Noxus but he is another Hunter and I remember talk of others appearing throughout the game.  I personally like the idea of others appearing periodically to help Samus, as long as they aren't there constantly.  For example for one boss a guy who shoots fire helps you by attacking him after you hit the corresponding weak points.

I also just want to see some guys from the DS game show up again.

to answer whoevers question that was; yes i will be getting both versions of TP, though im not sure if i'll be getting them on the same day or not. with metroid and TP as launch titles, and hopefuly red steel, im not sure how much gaming time i'll have.

the last time i bought more than two games at once i felt obligated to play each one of them for atleast a few hors a day that it kind of ruined the experience because i couldnt get drawn in as much as i could have. i would play MP2 until i had accomplished something, anything really, the save and play another game, Geist for example. Then with geist i would complete a stage, then save and play ANOTHER game, but it felt rushed.

i wont want that to be the case when i get Wii. i've never had more than two games at a system launch, the only reason i had two for GC was because i had to buy a crap-bundle with one of the games being something i had no interest for, so i only played one game until the next big thing came along. This time around though, how can i NOT resist games like TP, MP3 and RS. especially because i'll have that "new toy" feeling where i wont even want to part with my Wii....its going to be a hard time NOT playing the damn thing, let alone trying to figure out which game to play next. Im actually frustrated that MP3 and TP are being released side by side because they are both such enthrawling games that play better when you take your time an explore. if Wii launched with either Zelda, Metroid, or Red steel, and other games like wario ware, and some third party games i dont have much interest on playing right away, i would be much happier.

I might have to take a week off from work when Wii is launched, am i the only one who feels this way?

Hopefully Mario doens't make launch (or DOES and Metroid is delayed or something) because a Mario, Metroid, and Zelda at launch would probably kill me.  Plus it's overkill, in my mind.  I really don't like seeing a Zelda game at launch, though this is sort of a special circumstance...still though.  STILL.  THOUGH.

I personally dont like that at all. Samus is a self-sufficient heroine, she shouldnt need help from others, and it also affects the loneliness feeling present in all past Metroid games, which happened to be one of the features I liked the most.

But I like other things, like the fantastic boss battle, stacking beams or use of the ship, the information for this title is still very vague so Im not going to judge it yet, theres a long way to go for it.

i've said in another post that if utilized correctly, other bounty hunters wouldn't take away as much of that "lonliness" feeling you get when playing metroid games. it could be like space pirate encounters, the ones where they come out of nowhere and scare the crap out of you (and NOT like the ones where you blast a door open and see them hovering around lol)

if they mess it up and have some bounty hunter come in out of nowhere and blow sh*t to hell (like zero in the mega man x games) then i'll be mad. if they show up once or twice to help, then attack you and keep you guessing as to what comes next, it will still give you that mentality that you're (kind of) alone on a foreign planet but something is out to get you

by the way the demo fight of samus vs ridley falling down a shaft = hotness

I think that you will still have to upgrade progressively in the game, but they'll just find another creative way of implementing it instead of having Samus lose the abilities..

I like how they had to include the stacking method for the weapons because there aren't enough buttons on the Wiimote.

I like how that sentance sounds sarcastic, but really isn't.

Seriously...I really do like the stacking method.  The alternating method used in Prime 1 and 2 I liked as well as it was sort of fresh for a while, but it's cool that I'm able to play a modern Prime game using this old-skool mechanic.

TrueNerd, obviously they just mean making it longer range. Maybe more powerful so you can pull bigger shields out of enemies' hands and open bigger doors too.

It might be used to pick up and sling objects (heavier ones as you upgrade). Wouldn't it be rad to drop a 2 ton steel crate on top of a Space Pirate? Gimme some of THAT.

Other wacky idea due to it being an hour past my bedtime: Taking a cue from the Ridley fight, what if you latched on to a central point in the ceiling of a cylinder-shaped room (like a silo), while you run along the wall as you're attacking/dodging a boss?

What other ideas could we come up with for the grapple beam?

Maybe the grapple beam will eventually allow you to THROW enemies. This could perhaps be the reason why you have to pull the control stick down to remove the shields from bad guys instead of yanking the entire nunchuck back. That function could be integrated into puzzle solving somehow.

I dunno. I hope they didn't just mean longer and stronger. There's too much potential coolness with an offensive grapple beam.

What if:

Samus was fighting this giant boss, whose attack was to suck things in (including samus). As the beast prepares the attack, Samus would have to first grapple beam herself to a hook. Then as she's literally hanging horizontal to the ground, you have to manuever your cannon in the general direction of the beast and charge and fire a super missle. Meanwhile, your view is going hay-wire as you shake with turbulence.

I think that would be a pretty cool boss.

Or What if:

Samus grapples to an object and the only way to blow it up is if you aim at your grapple beam (after aquiring the Wave Beam) and shoot a charged beam at it. The beam clings to your grapple and follows it like a trail of lit gun powder.

Or What if:

There is a boss that travels furiously fast, is enourmously huge, and is the first water boss in Metriod history (i think). Samus must grapple to it's back and she hangs on for dear life, water ski as she tries to kill the damn thing! Knowing Retro, it would be crazy!

Or What if:

Samus obtains the ability to use bombs outside of her ball state. She grabs a bomb with her left hand and with the nunchuck, chucks it where ever she likes. There are two settings for the bomb: Gravity and Anti-Gravity. Gravity acts like a normal grenade, while Anti-gravity floats upwards very slowly. While Gravity bombs blow up on impact, Anti-gravity bombs must be shot. Anti-Gravity bombs also cause a much bigger explosion.

Or What if:

One of Samus's grapple beam upgrades turns it into a laserbeam type sword. Not neccessarily to attack with since that is not Metriod at all, but more to cut through vegitation, carve through blast-proof windows, and things of that nature (another way to advance exploration basically).

Or What if:

One of Samus's grapple beam upgrades allows for more than one grapple. This would be used to pull multiple triggers (similar to how Zelda's boomerang can lock on to multiple items, and used in basically the same fashion; i.e. puzzle-solving, boss-battle, taming a gaint beast to fly or swim). OOOOOOOOH!!!! That would be amazing! Imagine using a giant manitee to explore an ocean. You can still shoot with the Wiimote. The nunchuck, however, would steer the beast (or it could steer itself, probably better). Or what if you used a giant pterodactyl to access a new area, only to be shot at by Flying Space Pirates. That sounds like a sh!tload of fun, especially if the beast reacted to the shooting and swooped and tried to dodge.

Alright, that's enough for one day. You guys get the jist of it anyways...

i was actually going to write up a similar suggestion that you made, before i read your post and im glad you did.

it was similar to that but i was thinking of a flying creature (though seeing samus water ski would be the best thing ever, especially if he suit magically came off....). with the flying creature you could attach yourself to part of its body and fly around the level as it tries to throw you off of it, possibly even trying to swing you into walls. you'd have to shot a charged shot towards the wall to push you away from it before impacting. there could be mutiple grapple points to latch on to if you do fall off of the giant creature and have to fight it while swinging, waiting for it to charge you so you can blast it, stun it, then latch on again and go for another ride, that being the only way to hit its weakpoint (like its belly or something).

anyways, stacking beams and upgradeable grapple seem really promising
