Metroid...at launch!
« on: May 10, 2006, 06:24:03 PM »
It is now official.

A Zelda and Metroid at launch?  Hell yeah!

Edit: URL isn't working for some damn reason, but it's over at IGN if you wish to gaze upon the story.

If this is indeed the case, I'm no longer dissapointed with the lack of Mario at launch.

Is it too soon to declare the Wii's launch as the best of all time? What else will we get? Madden, Red Steel, Wii Sports, one of those new IP's, Wario Ware? Probably not all, but some for sure. Then we get Smash Bros and Mario Galaxy as a second wave. *drools*

I think my head will literally pop when I'm standing in front of my just-hooked-up Wii and I have Twilight Princess in my left hand and Corruption in my right and I am debating which one I will play first. I CAN'T WAIT TO MAKE THAT DECISION!

It's going to feel really, really weird playing Metroid and Zelda at launch, but not Mario.

Its too bad that Mario isn't going to be available at launch, but with Zelda and Metroid to fill in, Nintendo should be in good shape compared to the GC.

Erm...Having Zelda at launch isn't that big of a deal.  We should've been playing it BEFORE the Wii launched. The whole "both versions come out the day of the launch" kinda nullifies the whole "TP will be a Gamecube game".  If the Wiimote control scheme is so superior, then why bother?

However, I will agree that Metroid Prime 3 at launch = sex.

You're going to lose your wiirginity with Zelda??

Metroid is an important game, it's guaranteed some sort of delay. Gamecube, Pikmin, Smash Bros, Star Fox, Eternal Darkess, Mario Sunshine, F-Zero, Wind Waker, TP... more are bound to happen.

I want either Metroid or Mario at launch, I don't care which.  Unlike a lot of people here I don't want both though.  I need time to beat the first and maybe some other launch games so both at once is unnecessary and frankly almost annoying (I can't even afford a Wii) with Zelda there too.  Spreading em out a bit should be better for sales as well.

Nothing will push hardware sales like a great launch lineup.

By the way, you are aware that just because both games are released doesn't mean you can't wait a little longer to buy one?

Well the problem with releasing both games at once is that it could hurt the sales of one. I think it would be best to spread the two out to maximize sales. Fill in the launch gap with many good games, but don't have two great games in it.

I'll be buying both. I think most of us here will be buying both. I think at launch, people in general are more inclined to buy more games then they usually do because they want to play with their new toy a lot. They certainly buy two games, at the least, so why not offer two awesome games?

Although, with that lineup I do doubt Mario wil hit launch, remember, Miyamoto didnt specifically say it would NOT be a launch title. He just said he didnt want to promise something he wasnt sure was going to happen, but then said it /would/ be available within 6 months of launch. So, it /could/ make launch, but given the "gauranteed" lineup we have so far, I kinda doubt it will be. Need to space a few games out, you know? Make sure they have a couple for that infamous dry spell after Xmas?
His exact quote(as shown from IGN)

"[Galaxy] is progressing along quite well, but it's often said that when I get involved in a project I upend the tea table. I don't want to promise anything yet. But if it's not a launch title it will definitely be there within the first six months," Miyamoto said.

So as the saying goes, Cross your fingers, but dont hold your breath.
Do, or do not. There is no try.

Absolutely true.  Most people will buy them both.  Zelda and Metroid both sell over 1 million in the US.  That's right!

I don't doubt that Zelda will sell through the roof in North America - if it had gone on sale last Christmas, though, it would have sold more. Regardless, it will easily be a million seller on both GameCube and Wii, and the sales could be a lot more.

I have my reservations about Metroid, though. Prime 2, acclaimed by all and still a fresh IP at the time, only sold a bit more than 600K copies over here. However, with all the promise the Wii has, and with it having a new control scheme, it will get a boost and probably be over a million. I guess we'll see..
