IP Resurrection Predictions! (Tension breaker)
« on: May 04, 2006, 12:30:48 PM »
It's fairly common knowledge that Nintendo will be bringing back at least one of their old IPs for the Wii.  Which old Nintendo property are you looking to be announced for wii the people at E3?  Predictions abound!  Give details as to who will be bringing it back, whether a 3rd party or Nintendo, and all that junk.

Mine?  You know it!  Kid Icarus!  It may seem like an easy one, but it's been over, what, 15 years since Pit appeared in his own game?  And that was on the Game Boy.  So it's not as though this is a foregone conclusion.

Who will make it?  Going out on a limb here....Retro

3d or 2d? Retro will use third person for the majority of the game, but there will be certain side scrolling levels(or vertical scrollers) to play like the old school Kid Icarus.  Maybe 2.5d.  Perhaps when you make your way to the shop, you must climb through old styled levels?  Mini game levels?  Archery levels?!

E, Teen or Mature? Hmm, I'll go out on a limb and say mature.  Perhaps an epic, violent struggle between greek gods within ancient mythology could tip this into mature territory.  I don't think it will be gore filled, but it will be violent enough, and the story itself will be mature.

launch title? Nope.  Spring '07.  It'll be shown in video form, with perhaps one playable level.  Hopefully.

Use of Revmote? Integral

final title  The Flight of Icarus: Fire in the Sky

I do think Kid Icarus is in the works, but I don't think it would/should be violent enough to warrant a Mature rating...

Also, Pilotwings!  But I'm hoping that's already been confirmed somewhat!

I don't think it will be rated mature for violence, but for the overall theme.

You know, it actually makes sense to make a mature Kid Ikarus, the focus fanbase of that game is already in their twenties or more. That wont necesarly guarantee an M rating though, I dont see Nintendo putting blood and gore in the game, but a mature aproach should be welcomed.

I would assume the most likely candidate for a resurrection would be Pilotwings considering such a rumour even made PGC's front page.

People say Kid Icarus so much it's like a buzzword.  Most of the people asking for a new version probably have never even played the original game.

I played the Gameboy version because I heard it was good and couldn't find it for NES.  That being said I'm a little indifferent on whether they make another or not.

Uhm....i kinda called this one

i like the title you gave it Omen, maybe they can use Iron Maiden's "flight of the icarus" as the opening theme; that'd be bad ass

I actually bought both Metroid and Kid Icarus for 29.99 each on the same day in about....1987?  Maybe earlier..they were released around the same time.  I know of what I speak....

I was just looking at a list of old Nintendo games, pondering which ones could be improved by the remote, when I found Mario and Wario.  I had forgotten all about this game.  It's essentially a puzzle game in the same vein as Lemmings, only instead of a horde of mindless critters, you guide a blinded Mario.  It was played using the SNES mouse, with which you controlled a fairy who interacted with elements in the environment.

Now imagine that instead of a point and click interface, you actually used the remote to affect things more directly.  For example, you might have to turn a crank to raise a bridge, or use a rope and pulley to lift something, or cut a rope to drop something, or fan a fire to burn something, or get Mario to hit a switch at the same time you do.  What you could do would depend on what tools were available to you in a given level.

Who'd develop it?  Well, Game Freak did the original, so they might as well do this one.  They've shown that they still have what it takes to develop non-pokemon games with Drill Dozer.

2d or 3d?  I'm not sure.  guiding Mario through a 3d environment without being able to control him directly could be cumbersome, but puzzles using the remote would probably be better in 3d.  I'll say 3d, with set paths for Mario to follow so you don't have to worry about getting him lined up just right to not walk off the side of a bridge.

The only problem is that I don't really expect an announcement at E3, or a return of this game ever, for that matter, but you got me thinking.

its sad i've never actually played kid icarus. i've heard such good things about it but i was just too young. that and its not a game my older brother owned, so i never got to play it when i was 3 or 4 (when i started playing NES). in that thread i linked i was just talking out my ass about how they could turn kid icarus into a God of War killer and have pit flying around and shooting arrows at the gods. like i said i never played the original but if i had, i dont think i'd want it to take a drastic change to try to compete with a game like GoW. i merely tried to be silly. i will say this agian though, if it happens, i called it.

oh and the more i think about it, they SHOULD use the iron maiden song in it, if even just for ad's for the game.

On the contrary, I had never played Metroid or Kid Icarus in my life, the announcement of Metroid Prime made me curious, and I got downloaded Super Metroid which basically made a fanboy instantly and I started having the same doubts about first person and everything. I even tried my best in the hard-as-hell NES metroid and also loved it.

With Kid Icarus I have to admit, I didnt really made any progress in the game, it didnt appeal to me. Metroid makes you start searching and upgrading from the very first corridor, I dont even know if Kid Icarus is similar to Metroid in that aspect, I kept going up and up and it seemed more like a vertical Mario than something so fresh, moody and original as Metroid was.

I would be lying if I didn't say my secret hope is Shadowrun being remade, or updated.  I love me some Shadowrun on the Snes.  I think Data East made the game, but I believe it was a pen and paper game first.  So who knows who owns it, I'm too lazy to look.  Ah hell...

Here's what I found, and it's troubling indeed: Shadowrun was developed and published by FASA Corporation from 1989 until early 2001, when FASA closed its doors and the property was sold to WizKids who licenses the RPG rights to the current publisher, Fantasy Productions (also known as FanPro, also responsible for the German version). WizKids produced an unsuccessful collectible action figure game based on the property called Shadowrun: Duels.

Shadowrun is currently in its fourth edition, which brings significant changes to the game's system and setting. The fourth edition was released at GenCon in August, 2005.

The Shadowrun role-playing game, various expansions, and a Shadowrun collectible card game have won Origins Awards.

Video games for the Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and in Japan only, the Sega Mega-CD have been created with entirely different story lines, although they all take place within the same Shadowrun universe. They are generally faithful to the pen and paper game. A first-person shooter video game was announced by Microsoft for the Xbox 360 in July 2005.

Leave it to MS to screw up the game and make it a lowly FPS.  Bastards!

Hey, get in line kid, I've been calling for it since the Snes days, and I'm sure there are eons of lost threads around here with me just begging for an updated Icarus game.

Kid Icarus was an odd combo of platforming, small rpg elements, and cool levels and enemies, along with Egg plants!  To me Metroid and Icarus go hand and hand, because they were both very unique and released fairly close together.  But Kid Icarus always seemed trippy and cool to me.  Metroid was dark and lonely, and I love them both.

oh im sure theres a very long line.

as for an IP resurrection i'd like to see, hmm...

its tough cuz i dont remember alot of the games we had for NES that werent mario, zelda or megaman., and the ones i do remember i wouldn't want to be resurrected or have been.

actually i want to say megaman. the series looks dead but maybe the wiimote could bring something new to the series? maybe like a GOOD 3d megaman game. i dont want that legends or battle network crap. i want something either megaman or megaman x.
Im a fan of the blue bomber and would like to see the series reinvented and brought back to glory. something that could outshine even mega man 2. i want capcom to actually try and make a good (mega man) game.

Normally I'm against using licenced music in games but perhaps the problem until now has merely been that the music that gets used always sucks.  Having a whomp-ass killer song like this might change my mind on the subject.

I'm humming that song and doing air guitar at my work desk as I type this.

Yours would be the first of a long line of feet to be consumed were it to happen.

And I have to admit, I'm curious about this song now...

It's a great song, but I'm partial to Iron Maiden.  I love all their songs as long as Dickinson is the singer(barring their first two albums of course, which are awesome as well despite Dickinson not getting on the scene until album 3),
